What did our critic Linda Hodgesthink of ANNIE at Broadway San Jose? It's a hard knock life for sure, but Broadway San Jose's ANNIE infuses even today's troubled times with unrestrained optimism. And even though the sun isn't really shining in rain ravaged Northern California, it didn't stop the carloads of boys and girls and their adults from streaming into San Jose for the show.
Theatro Sao Pedro premieres the satirical ballet chante The Seven Deadly Sins, the last collaboration between Kurt Weil and Bertolt Brecht. The production will be musically directed by Ira Levin, who will command the Theatro Sao Pedro Orchestra. The Seven Deadly Sins opens on November 5th. In all, there will be 8 recitals until the 14th.

Been through a few things? (Too) full of holiday cheer? Curator and host Thomas March (Aftermath) and the cast explore these and more, in song, poetry, comedy, and story. In addition to the host's comic monologue, the show will feature poetry from Tyler Mills and Thoughtress; comedy from Ashley Gavin; and music from Jen Kwok and Kat Liz Kramer. Drew Wutke will be on keys as musical director.

San Francisco Opera presents Richard Strauss' Arabella in five performances at the War Memorial Opera House from October 16 through November 3. Last performed by the Company 20 years ago, Arabella returns in Tim Albery's acclaimed production with leading Strauss interpreter Marc Albrecht, making his United States opera debut on the podium. The cast features soprano Ellie Dehn performing the title role for the first time, baritone Brian Mulligan in his role debut as Mandryka, soprano Heidi Stober as Zdenka, tenor Daniel Johansson in his first San Francisco Opera engagement as Matteo and Hye Jung Lee as the Fiakermilli. Company Chorus Director Ian Robertson prepares the San Francisco Opera Chorus.
The Hollywood Museum has become the most popular depository for all things entertainment for film and television. For the past several summers, I have attended the Festival of Arts and The Pageant of the Masters in Laguna Beach. But this year, I also decided to also visit two other art festivals along Laguna Canyon Road rather than spend any time cruising the town as I had done before. The full-day of exploring all the artistic delights on display this year at all three locations left me dazzled by all the talent on display, while wishing I had lot of extra income to purchase and bring home many of the awe-inspiring items that caught my fancy. But the real highlight of the day was viewing the abundance of 'local color' on display in this summer's 'Under the Sun' themed Pageant of the Masters.
