Boston Playwrights’ Theatre has announced Walt McGough and Deirdre Girard as the recipients of the Jack Welch Developmental Residency and Fellowship.

As Houston performing arts ventures grow for the 2025-26 season, Houston Grand Opera surpasses them all with a thrilling 50th anniversary production of Gershwin's Porgy and Bess. The first four-actor stage adaptation of The 39 Steps was written by Corble and Dimon and first premiered in 1966. It was subsequently rewritten by Patrick Barlow in 2005. It is a favorite for community theatres around the world, but it first began its life as a 1915 novel by John Buchan, which was adapted by Alfred Hitchcock for his 1935 spy thriller film.

International violinist Timothy Chooi has recently been honored with the loan of the Stradivarius 1714 “Dolphin” violin from the Nippon Music Foundation in Tokyo, Japan.

Norma Bengell, O Brasil em Revista celebrates the career of Norma Bengell (1935–2013), actress, singer, director, and muse of Cinema Novo. With a play by Aimar Labaki and a performance by Amanda Acosta, the show recreates key moments in the artist's life, blending memories, musical revues, and songs ranging from Bossa Nova to international hits, as well as three new songs. The performance is free and part of SESI-SP's cultural program.

Porgy and Bess is a famous 'folk opera' created by George Gershwin, with a libretto by DuBose Heyward and lyrics by DuBose and Ira Gershwin. The work chronicles the life of a Black community on Catfish Row in Charleston and is known for its fusion of operatic elements with American folk music, jazz, and blues. The story focuses on the love between Porgy, a disabled beggar, and Bess, a woman seeking a better life.

Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum will return with the company’s annual Under the Oaks salon series, featuring performance and music every Thursday in September on Theatricum’s spectacular outdoor stage in Topanga.

Patrick Barlow’s stage adaptation of Alred Hitchcock’s THE 39 STEPS is a madcap spoof of the black and white murder mystery movies featuring the clowning and comedy antics of the Umbilical Brothers.
