Misha Galant and Maxim Lando Named 2020 Gilmore Young Artists

Two young American pianists, Misha Galant and Maxim Lando, have been named recipients of the 2020 Gilmore Young Artist Award. The Awards were announced today by Pierre van der Westhuizen, Director of the Irving S. Gilmore International Keyboard Festival and Awards, which conducts and funds the Gilmore Artist Award program. Mr. Galant and Mr. Lando will each receive a $15,000 stipend to further their musical careers and educational development, as well as $10,000 towards the commissioning of a new piano composition for which the artist will have exclusive performance rights for one year. They will also give solo recitals and orchestral performances during the 2020 Gilmore Keyboard Festival in Kalamazooa?"April 22 through May 10.

Kansas City Repertory Theatre (KCRep), announced the full schedule for this season's popular Monday Night Playwright Series, which opened with BURIED ROOTS, its first play of the series, on Monday. The series features a line-up of new and returning playwrights including Michelle Tyrene Johnson, Darren Canady, James Still, Migdalia Cruz, Mashuq Mushtaq Deen and Ellen McLaughlin. These free public events take place on the UMKC campus at the Spencer Theatre Donor Lounge.  

Kenny Broberg to Perform in Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts

Kenny Broberg, Van Cliburn Silver Medalist, Park ICM piano master's candidate, and, most recently, International Tchaikovsky Piano Competition Bronze Medalist, will return to perform for Kansas City audiences as part of Stanislav & Friends, September 20, in Helzberg Hall. Kenny, 25, won the Bronze Medal at The International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in June.

The cast of 'ANNE FRANK, a musical', based on Anne Frank's life will feature 12 artists on stage to recreate Anne Frank's life filled with the touching music and lyrics written by Jean Pierre Hadida. This production marks the U.S Off-Broadway Premiere of this successful French musical which will be performed for the first time in English (adapted by Dylan Hadida). Directed and produced by David Serero, this new Off-Broadway production will take place at the Center for Jewish History (15 West 16th Street New York 10016), originally produced by Francine Disegni for Broadway Mad Production, Simon & Michal Kalfon.

The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association has announced the four conductors who will participate in the 2019/20 Dudamel Fellowship Program: Hilo Carriel, Marta Gardolinska, Enluis Montes Olivar, and Anna Rakitina. UH Alumnus Takes Bronze Medal In International Piano Competition

University of Houston alumnus and rising classical music star Kenny Broberg has accomplished what only a handful of American pianists have done before - win a medal at the International Tchaikovsky Competition. Arguably the most esteemed piano competition in the world, Broberg finished third to receive the bronze medal and a $10,000 cash prize. He was the only American to compete in the finals. The Tchaikovsky began in 1958 and is held every four years in Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia.

American Symphony Orchestra Announces Expanded 2019-20 Season

American Symphony Orchestra announced the 58th season of its three-concert Vanguard series at Carnegie Hall, now expanded to include an additional performance at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall. The season also marks the return of the Orchestra's popular series to New York City's Symphony Space-which originally took place between 1998 and 2015-with a performance of Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 in conjunction with the ASO's celebration of the great composer's 250th birthday. This series combines complete concerts of well-known, major orchestral works with interactive educational demonstrations. The full 2019-20 season runs from October 31, 2019 through March 12, 2020.

The French Institute Alliance Fran aise (FIAF), New York's premier French cultural and language center, today announced the 2019 Crossing the Line Festival, featuring 11 performances and a gallery exhibition from a geographically, generationally, and artistically diverse group of artists whose work transcends genres and boundaries. All performances are world, US, or New York premieres; they are united by their convention-breaking fearlessness as they confront topics from social injustice to personal demons. Many of the performances pay homage to legendary artists of our time and previous eras, while the theme of migration and its transformational effects on identity informs several others. Director of The Royal Ballet Kevin O'Hare today announces that Marcelino Sambe has been promoted to Principal dancer, the highest rank in the Company. O'Hare comments: "I'm thrilled to announce that Marcelino Sambe will become a Principal dancer from the start of the 2019/20 Season. He has had a fantastic year with some notable debuts, including a dazzling Basilio in Carlos Acosta's Don Quixote, and a heartfelt Romeo in Kenneth MacMillan's Romeo and Juliet. The impressive range of his artistry has also been displayed in his performances this Season in Crystal Pite's Flight Pattern, Frederick Ashton's Les Patineurs and Wayne McGregor's Infra. He has the most wonderful personality that endears him to audiences and fellow Company members alike. I know everyone will be delighted with the news of his promotion. He has accomplished so much since joining the Company from The Royal Ballet School, and I'm very excited to see him progress to the next phase of his career."
