Coming off Opera Orlando’s most successful year to date, the Company is pleased to announce the hiring of a new staff position this month. The Opera welcomes Glorivy Arroyo as its new development manager. Ms. Arroyo will work under senior development director Russell P. Allen and will focus on grant writing, donor cultivation, special events, and the Company’s annual giving campaign.

Lin-Manuel Miranda is reportedly in the process of creating a new Broadway musical based on Sol Yurick’s 1965 novel The Warriors. The novel delves into violent gang confrontations in New York City during the 1960s.

Rogue Theater Festival is back making waves for emerging playwrights in its fifth annual theater festival. Its hybrid theater festival was born out of necessity in 2020, but now it’s here to stay.

Moulin Rouge! is based on the 2001 Baz Luhrmann film of the same name and originally starred Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman. Known for its somber tale and use of modern music in a vintage setting, the story and its elements translated extremely well to the stage while also being different enough to appreciate the stage musical in its own right. The updated music for a 2023 audience, a strong cast and crew, and a tale of desperate, devoted love all make this production Moulin Rouge! excel beyond the surface of the fantasy.

National Philharmonic (NatPhil) announced its 2023-2024 Season, which includes six classical programs conducted by Music Director Piotr Gajewski, one classical concert led by guest conductor Jeri Lynne Johnson, and two choral performances presented in partnership with The Washington Chorus (TWC) and conducted by TWC Artistic Director Eugene Rogers. All season concerts will be held at The Music Center at Strathmore, the Orchestra’s longstanding home in Montgomery County.
