The McCallum Theatre announced today that the international sensation and Valley audience favorite band  Pink Martini will headline its annual fundraising gala to be held on Wednesday, November 30th,  with a special appearance by the "global gigastar," Dame Edna. Pink Martini returns to the McCallum for this special evening following a sold-out run of five performances in the 2015-2016 season.  Drawing inspiration from music from all over the world - brilliantly combining elements of classical, jazz and old-fashioned pop - Pink Martini's diverse repertoire is a blend influenced by Cole Porter and Duke Ellington, Tito Puente and Xavier Cugat, as well as Argentine tango, Brazilian samba, Italian folk, Asian and romantic Hollywood musicals of the 1940s and '50s. Paper Mill Playhouse will continue its 75th Anniversary Season with the classic Charles Dickens musical Oliver!, with a holiday 'twist' for the entire family. With a book, music and lyrics by Lionel Bart, Oliver! will be directed by Paper Mill Playhouse Producing Artistic Director Mark S. Hoebee with original choreography by JoAnn M. Hunter. Oliver! will feature David Garrison (Fagin), best known for his role as Steve Rhoades on the hit television series Married...with Children, Betsy Morgan (Nancy), John Treacy Egan (Mr. Bumble), Jose Llana (Bill Sikes), David Hess (Mr. Brownlow), Ethan Haberfield (Artful Dodger) and introducing Tyler Moran as Oliver. Oliver! will also feature 16 local boys from across the state of New Jersey who auditioned from a pool of over 200. Oliver! will play the Millburn, New Jersey theater from November 21 through December 29. The official press opening night is Sunday, December 1, 2013, at 7:00pm. (more...)

Everyone surrounding Kara -- James, Winn, Alex, Mon-El, and J'onn-- went through a major life change on this week's episode of SUPERGIRL. James and Winn debuted their combined creation of The Guardian, Mon-El dealt with whether he wants to be a hero or not, and J'onn received a threatening blood transfusion. Most poignantly, Alex came out to Kara in a stunning portrayal by Chyler Leigh. Meanwhile, the DEO team battled an alien parasite that proved to be a dangerous match even for Supergirl and the Martian Manhunter. The acting in this episode, especially from Chyler and Jeremy Jordan, was truly some of the best we've seen this season. (more...)

Davies rise to the upper echelon of blues music started at an early age as she absorbed the music heard constantly in her home. Her (professional) musician parents were either sitting at the piano or spinning discs on their turntable, filling the air with the sounds of big band jazz, harmony vocal groups, or the pop icons of the day. But the young Davies was particularly attracted to the bluesier sounds of her father's Ray Charles records, and by the age of 12 realized that her affinity for an instrument was not for the piano, but for the guitar.
