Birdland Jazz Club and Birdland Theater are pleased to present the schedule for the month of February! At Birdland Jazz Club, catch the iconic Lionel Hampton Big Band Featuring Jason Marsalis, current GRAMMY nominee Catherine Russell, the Birdland debut of AGUAS Trio with Omar Sosa, Yilian Cañizares and Gustavo Ovalles, and iconic vocalist Jane Monheit. Internationally recognized trumpeter Rachel Therrien, the Seth Weaver Big Band, and The Voice contestant Melinda Rose Rodriguez will also be performing upstairs. 

In what has become an annual ritual, a total of 40 established and emerging composers, lyricists, and librettists will converge on the Goodspeed campus from mid-January through mid-February 2020 to participate in the Johnny Mercer Foundation Writers Colony at Goodspeed Musicals. The writing teams, representing 15 new musicals, will populate the campus, creating a truly exciting environment for discovery and inspiration.

The Off-Broadway hit comedy Men Are From Mars - Women Are From Venus LIVE!, featuring Ryan Drummond, is a one-man fusion of theatre and stand-up, and is a light-hearted theatrical comedy based on the New York Times #1 best-selling book of the last decade by John Gray. Moving swiftly through a series of vignettes, the show covers everything from dating and marriage to the bedroom. This show will play at North Coast Rep on February 3rd and 4th at 7:30pm.

Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director/CEO) has announced the ninth annual Roundabout Underground Reading Series, a five-night event that includes nightly readings of new works written and directed by emerging artists, as well as post-show receptions. The Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall will present the Sarasota premiere of WAITRESS for a limited three-day engagement! The diner opens up on Friday, January 24 at 7:30 p.m. and runs through Sunday, January 26 with a total of five performances. Attendees will even have the opportunity to purchase pies at the hall while supplies last. Meet Jenna, a waitress and expert pie-maker who dreams of a way out of her small town and rocky marriage. Pouring her heart into her pies, she crafts desserts that mirror her topsy-turvy life such as 'The Key (Lime) to Happiness Pie' and 'Betrayed By My Eggs Pie.' When a baking contest in a nearby county - and a satisfying encounter with someone new - show Jenna a chance at a fresh start, she must find the courage to seize it. Change is on the menu, as long as Jenna can write her own perfectly personal recipe for happiness.

Corky Hale's critically acclaimed holiday album, “Have Yourself a Jazzy Little Christmas,” has been reissued by LML Records.  An acclaimed jazz harpist, she also excels on piano and vocals.  She is joined by Kirk Smith on bass and Tom Walsh on drums.

WP Theater, under the leadership of Producing Artistic Director Lisa McNulty and Managing Director Michael Sag, has announced that the world premiere of playwright and performer Donnetta Lavinia Grays' Where We Stand, co-presented by WP Theater and Baltimore Center Stage, will star Grays [Men on Boats, In The Next Room (or The Vibrator Play)], who will alternate select performances with David Ryan Smith (One Man, Two Guvnors; Passing Strange) beginning February 15. Directed by Tamilla Woodard (Hadestown Broadway associate director), previews begin Off-Broadway on Friday, January 31 at WP Theater with an opening night of February 11, 2020. The limited engagement at WP Theater will run through March 1, 2020 before playing Baltimore Center Stage April 2-26.

Georgia Ensemble Theatre (GET), the professional North Fulton theatre company, will present a special one-night only engagement of the hit show Yesterday and Today: The Interactive Beatles Experience. The concert event will take place on Monday, January 13, 2020, at 8 p.m. at the company's home in the Roswell Cultural Arts Center. GET brought this show to Roswell in 2016 for a three week run and every night was a sold out performance, with many patrons attending more than once.

West Side Story is officially in previews on Broadway! The new production is directed by Tony Award winner Ivo van Hove; and for the first time ever in the United States, will feature all-new choreography by the internationally acclaimed Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker. West Side Story will begin previews on December 10, 2019 and open February 6th, 2020 at the Broadway Theatre.

Irish Repertory Theatre (Charlotte Moore, Artistic Director and Ciarán O'Reilly, Producing Director) announced today a two-week extension for the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize winning-play Pumpgirl, by Abbie Spallen (Strandline), directed by Nicola Murphy (Stop/Over). Pumpgirl began performances in the W. Scott McLucas Studio Theatre (132 W 22nd Street, New York, NY 10011) on November 7 and opened November 14. Originally set to close on December 29, 2019, it will now play an extended run through January 12, 2020.

The composer and lyricist of Waitress, the multi-platinum-selling Grammy and twice Tony-nominated singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles, will return to the Brooks Atkinson Theatre to host the final edition of the show's hugely popular a?oeCast Album Karaokea?? program following the 7 PM performance on Tuesday, December 17th. Interested audience members will be able to sign up before the performance for the chance to sing one minute of any song in the show accompanied by the onstage band led by musical director Nadia DiGiallonardo. Katharine McPhee currently stars as Jenna through January 5, 2020.

OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network announced today the directorial lineup and additional casting for the first installment of the anticipated new romantic anthology drama “Cherish the Day,” created and executive produced by Emmy® winner/Academy Award®-nominee Ava DuVernay (“Queen Sugar,” “When They See Us”). The series from Warner Horizon Scripted Television added Michael Beach, Anne-Marie Johnson and Kellee Stewart in recurring roles. They join previously announced series regulars Xosha Roquemore, Alano Miller and legendary Emmy®-winning actress Cicely Tyson. The DuVernay led series recently announced it achieved full gender parity with a production crew of over 50% women, including 18 female department heads.

The Tony-nominated hilarious, hit musical WAITRESS, which opens December 6-8 has cast two young area actresses to take on the role of a?oeLulua?? during the McCallum Theatre engagement. Emma Ayeni, AGE 4, and Ellie Weinstein will alternate the role of a?oeLulu,a?? the daughter of the production's main character, Jenna. Both young ladies are from the Coachella Valley. WAITRESS tells the story of a?oeJennaa??, an expert pie baker working at a local diner and stuck in a loveless marriage.   Her salvation comes in the form of her daughter, a?oeLulu.a??

Crossroads Theatre Company continues their exciting season with a holiday show for all. A Christmas Carol will be performed at New Brunswick Performing Arts Center (NBPAC) in the Elizabeth Ross Johnson Theater from December 5 to December 15. Directed by the Company's Artistic Director, Marshall Jones III, the production promises to put audience members in the holiday spirit.

Legendary, multi-award winning actress/singer Betty Buckley returns to Café Carlyle, March 10 a?" 21. Her career spans theater, film, television and concert halls around the world. She's received a sea of accolades including a Tony Award for her performance as Grizabella, the Glamour Cat, in Andrew Lloyd Webber's CATS. She's a 2012 Theatre Hall of Fame inductee, and the 2017 recipient of the Julie Harris Award from The Actor's Fund for Artistic Achievement. Betty Buckley just completed a national tour of the new Broadway production of Hello, Dolly! produced by Scott Rudin.
