San Francisco Opera today announced cast updates for the upcoming productions of Leoš Jana?ek's The Makropulos Case and Giacomo Puccini's Madama Butterfly. The role of Albert Gregor in The Makropulos Case will now feature American tenor Charles Workman in his Company debut, replacing Scott Quinn who has withdrawn due to personal reasons. Italian tenor Vincenzo Costanzo will make his United States opera debut as Lt. B. F. Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly in lieu of Maxim Aksenov who has withdrawn for personal reasons.

At the vanguard of Boston's classical music scene, Odyssey Opera and the Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP) present the world premiere of the live performance of The Trial at Rouen by Norman Dello Joio. A semi-staged, English-language production led by conductor Gil Rose, The Trial at Rouen unites Odyssey Opera (one of the nation's most innovative opera companies), BMOP (the nation's premier orchestra dedicated exclusively to commissioning, performing, and recording new orchestral music), and internationally renowned singers Heather Buck (Joan of Arc) and Stephen Powell (Pierre Cauchon). The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) is pleased to announce the launch of its sixth annual BSO Academy Week. From Saturday, June 20 through Saturday, June 27, 2015, instrumentalists from across the country are invited to rehearse and perform side-by-side with BSO musicians and under the direction of Music Director Marin Alsop in an intensive music "fantasy camp." The BSO's Academy Week was notably featured in The New York Times and has become a popular destination for amateur musicians from across the country. The Academy provides an immersive experience for participants who desire a comprehensive learning experience through four distinct tracks for performers, educators and administrators: Orchestral Track, Chamber Music Track, Music Educator Track and the Arts Administrator Track. For two nights, Odyssey Opera presents an Italian-language fully staged performance of Guiseppe Verdi's seventh opera, Giovanna d'Arco (Joan of Arc). This rarely-heard treasure premiered in 1845 and dates from the middle of the first decade of the composer's long career.

La Monnaie opens the 2019-20 season not by one, but by two world premieres. In September 2019, at the same time as Pascal Dusapin's Macbeth Underworld at La Monnaie, Le Silence des ombres premieres at KVS. It is an opera adaptation of Maurice Maeterlinck's Trois Petits Drames pour Marionnettes, commissioned to the young French composer Benjamin Attahir and produced in close collaboration with the author and director Olivier Lexa, a team of novice creators of the National School of Visual Arts of La Cambre and a cast of young singers supported by ENOA, the European Network of Opera Academies.

Following Odyssey Opera's 2016-17 season dedicated to works inspired by the writings of Oscar Wilde, Artistic and General Director Gil Rose today announced the company's 2017-18 season: Trial by Fire: Joan of Arc and the Hundred Years War, featuring operatic masterpieces that tell the story of martyr, saint, and military leader Joan of Arc (1412-1431). Representing a wide range of styles, Odyssey Opera presents five operas that interpret the mysterious medieval world Joan inhabited. Opening the season is Tchaikovsky's The Maid of Orleans followed by L'assedio di Calais by Gaetano Donizetti, The Trial at Rouen by Norman Dello Joio, Jeanne d'Arc au Bucher by Arthur Honegger, and Giovanna d'Arco by Giuseppe Verdi.

There are two pieces on the program presented by Soledad Barrio and Noche Flamenca, currently at the West Park Presbyetearian Church, on Amsterdam Avenue and W.86th Street, which I am so glad to have seen on Wednesday, December 28, 2016. The Artistic Director and Producer is Martin Santangelo, who founded the company in 1993. His wife is the brilliant force of Flamenco dance and choreography, Soledad Barrio. The venue lends itself to spirit and emotion, main ingredients of this troupe of dancers and musicians. The lighting is not elaborate, but it is an extremely effective part of the production.

For one night only, Odyssey Opera presents a semi-staged English-language performance of Arthur Honegger's dramatic oratorio Jeanne d'Arc au b cher (Joan of Arc at the Stake), a genre-defying masterpiece described as having the perfect cohesion between words and music. A hybrid of Honegger's eclectic score and sung/spoken libretto by French poet/playwright Paul Claudel, Joan is brought to life in this vivid and emotional drama. Performing the lead role of Joan of Arc is acclaimed actor/dancer Shura Baryshnikov. Conductor Gil Rose leads a full orchestra and chorus featuring the Harvard-Radcliffe Collegium Musicum and the Premier Choir of the Boston Children's Chorus.
