Review: CHARLEY'S AUNT at Kechi Playhouse
by John Dalton-White - Jul 14, 2025

When my college choral professor pulled out a song that the choir had sung frequently, he would call it “a sugar stick.”   Sugar stick refers to something that has been repeated repeatedly and needs very little work to prepare.  Charley’s Aunt is Kechi Playhouse owner/director Misty Maynard’s sugar stick.

BWW Review: FINDING NEVERLAND at Theater League
by Alan Portner - Feb 28, 2018

Broadway Across America's "Finding Neverland" opens as a wonderful possibility, yet refuses to soar as we dare to hope it might.   "Neverland" is a pretty darn good show imbued with magical moments, yet somehow falls short of the special experience it might have been.

BWW Review: Meade Fearlessly Outruns Dazzlingly Difficult SEMIRAMIDE at the Met
by Richard Sasanow - Feb 21, 2018

A lot of risk, fast rotations in perfect unison, a precarious balance point. No, I'm not talking about doing a twizzle in Olympic ice-dancing--but starring in SEMIRAMIDE by Gioacchino Rossini, a man who believed there was no such thing as too many runs, roulades and high notes. Neither did soprano Angela Meade, who fearlessly stars in the Met's current run of this dazzlingly difficult piece.

BWW Review: THE ILLUSIONISTS--LIVE FROM BROADWAY at Providence Performing Arts Center
by Larry O'Brien - Jan 20, 2018

If you hurry, you still have time to get over to the Providence Performing Arts Center to catch THE ILLUSIONISTS-LIVE FROM BROADWAY. Most touring shows do not have the Broadway cast, but this one does. It blends very funny comedy with jaw-dropping feats of magic and/or derring-do. My wife and I walked out asking each other, 'How did they do that,' and, as Butch said to Sundance, 'Who are those guys?' There were five of them and three assistants, and they took turns stopping our thought processes cold. I am going to take them in order of enjoyment.
