Legendary soprano Leontyne Price was tonight [29 April 2019] awarded the prestigious Lifetime Achievement award at the 2019 International Opera Awards (IOA) at a glittering red-carpet gala event at London's Sadler's Wells theatre. The Awards, considered opera's answer to the Oscars, celebrate achievements in opera around the globe over the last calendar year in a wide range of categories. The IOA acknowledged the pioneering singer's many achievements over her illustrious career, stating in a ground-breaking career that for the first time placed a great African-American artist at the very pinnacle of the operatic profession, both in her native United States and throughout Europe, Leontyne Price upheld the highest vocal standards that led to her receiving universal acclaim wherever and whatever she sang.

This musical revue is a unique ensemble piece with Cole Porter himself at the center of the group of society friends and counterparts from literature and musical theatre of the 1920-40s. Director Mary Cutler and cast take on this revue, and Cutler's insights are shared here.

The National Museum of American Jewish History (NMAJH) is pleased to announce its next special exhibition Sara Berman's Closet: a small and monumental story by Maira Kalman and Alex Kalman. An installation of one immigrant woman's belongings as re-created by Sara's daughter and grandson - the acclaimed artist and writer Maira Kalman and designer and curator Alex Kalman - the project will feature the Museum's first-ever public art installation on its Kimmel Plaza, on the corner of 5th and Market Streets. An accompanying art exhibition will continue in the Museum's special exhibition gallery, featuring new paintings by Maira Kalman and new sculptures by Alex Kalman and will include interventions throughout the core exhibition, as well as in-person appearances by the Kalmans throughout the run. Sara Berman's Closet will be on view April 5 through September 2, 2019.

Cincinnati Shakespeare Company (CSC) announced the titles for its 2019-2020 Season at The Otto M. The winners of the 48th annual George London Foundation Awards Competition for young American and Canadian opera singers were announced at the conclusion of the competition's final round this evening, which took place before an enthusiastic audience at Gilder Lehrman Hall at The Morgan Library & Museum in New York City.
