Manca poco meno di un mese all'evento teatrale piu atteso da tutta la comunita teatrale di tutto il mondo: il 9 giugno infatti, al Radio City Music Hall di New York, si svolgera la 73esima edizione dei Tony Awards. Per la seconda volta, James Corden sara il presentatore di questa serata, dopo aver ricevuto un Emmy Award per la sua performance nel 2016. Il 30 aprile, Bebe Neuwirth e Brandon Victor Dixon hanno annunciato i nomi delle opere teatrali (play e musical) in diretta streaming. Noi di BroadwayWorld non stiamo piu nella pelle! Ma soprattutto non possiamo stare con le mani in mano e, per il bene comune, vogliamo parlarvi un po' dei protagonisti di quest'anno: attori e spettacoli per lo piu poco noti in Italia ma che rappresentano, senza ombra di dubbio, il meglio di questa nuova stagione di Broadway. Nota a margine: ci muoveremo esclusivamente all'interno dell'ambito del teatro musicale (non ce ne vogliano gli appassionati di plays). NBC has tied for #1 among the Big 4 networks in primetime results for the week of April 29-May 5 in the key demographic of adults 18-49, according to “live plus same day” viewership figures from Nielsen Media Research. NBC also tied for the weeklong win in adults 18-34 and adults 25-54 and led the week outright in all key adult-female demos.

The Actors' Equity Foundation's 2019 Clarence Derwent Awards for most promising female and male performers on the New York metropolitan scene have gone to Sarah Stiles (Tootsie) and Ephraim Sykes (Ain't Too Proud:The Life and Times of The Temptations).  The announcement was made by Judy Rice, president of the Foundation, which administers the awards.

Steve Martin and Martin Short will bring their critically acclaimed comedy tour Now You See Them, Soon You Won't for the first time to Australian and New Zealand audiences in November. Nashville audiences will be treated to premieres of Tony Award winners Dear Evan Hansen and Hamilton, along with revivals of Once On This Island and My Fair Lady, during the upcoming 2019-20 Broadway at TPAC series, which was revealed last night by TPAC president and CEO Kathleen O'Brien - her final season reveal following a storied 30-year career at the performing arts center - in Andrew Jackson Hall.

The producers of the 2019 UK and Ireland tour and first new production in 25 years of Jim Jacobs & Warren Casey's iconic musical GREASE are delighted to announce that Dan Partridge, Martha Kirby, Louis Gaunt and Rhianne-Louise McCaulsky will star as Danny, Sandy, Kenickie and Rizzo respectively. "Not everyone will go home a winner" in Goodman Theatre's world-premiere production of Lottery Day by Ike Holter, which appears through April 28 in the Owen Theatre. Holter concludes his seven-play "Rightlynd Saga"-the first play of which premiered five years ago, and has been hailed as "one of the most significant literary achievements in modern-day Chicago" (Chicago Tribune)-with a raucous theatrical bash, directed by Chicago native Lili-Anne Brown. Commissioned by the Goodman and developed through its New Stages Festival of new plays, Lottery Day takes place in a Rightlynd backyard where new characters and returning characters from the saga come together to create a work about the cost of belonging and the gift of community. Lottery Day appears through April 28 in the Owen Theatre.

In January, Ariana Grande dropped her latest single, and its accompanying music video, '7 Rings.' The song features her sampling the famous Sound of Music number, 'My Favorite Things.' According to The New York Times, the song just topped Billboard's singles chart for the sixth time. The song is credited to 10 writers, but Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, who wrote the original 'My Favorite Things,' control 90% of the songwriting royalties. That makes this chart-topping hit not only a huge victory for Grande, but a huge victory for the musical theatre legends as well!

The McCallum Theatre presents Emmy and Tony Award winning actress and singer Kristin Chenoweth on Friday, March 22, at 8:00pm, and Saturday, March 23, at 8:00pm. The acclaimed star presents an intimate evening of iconic songs from her best known shows, popular standards, and classics from Broadway.

The MAC (Milford Arts Council) and Pantochino Productions announce a very special Nite Spot Night event on April 6th at 8pm. The MAC, located at 40 Railroad Avenue South in downtown Milford CT, will be turned into a piano bar for one night only! With the baby grand piano in the center of the room, patrons will be seated at tables around the room (and even on stage) as acclaimed Broadway actor/pianist Michael "Mac" McAssey will sing and play favorite show tunes and pop music. The audience will be invited to sing along with Mac. Guests are also encouraged to come early and bring their favorite drinks and food for a "bring your own" -style night. The Speakeasy Lounge will be open for concessions as well.

In 2016, Derek Hough was set to star in a Broadway revival of Singin' In The Rain. However, later that year, BroadwayWorld reported that the production had been cancelled, due to lack of available theatres.
