They're shining, shimmering, splendid!
For the last five years, the New Amsterdam Theatre has been all about magic lamps, carpet rides, princes, thieves and genies! That's because Disney's Aladdin, which opened in 2014, has played well over 2000 performances there.
Aladdin opened on Broadway at the New Amsterdam Theatre to critical acclaim on March 20, 2014 and quickly established itself as one of the biggest new blockbusters in recent years, breaking 14 New Amsterdam Theatre house records; worldwide, it has welcomed more than 10 million people and grossed over $1 billion. Its global footprint has expanded to include productions in Tokyo, Hamburg, London and Australia, in addition to the two U.S. productions.
The North American tour of Aladdin recently celebrated its 2nd anniversary and welcomed its two millionth guest. Since launching in Chicago at The Cadillac Palace Theatre on April 19, 2017, the tour has played to capacity houses in 25 cities during 869 performances. Future stops for the tour include Baltimore, Charlotte, Dallas, Durham, Fort Lauderdale, Houston, Kansas City, Memphis, Orlando, San Antonio and Washington, D.C.
Ainsley Melham (Aladdin):
Broadway debut! Ainsley joins the company direct from having starred in the first Australian national tour of Aladdin (2017 Helpmann Award nomination for Best Male Actor in a Musical). Other theatre in his native Australia includes Sonny Malone in Xanadu. Arielle Jacobs (Jasmine):
Arielle is so excited to be in Agrabah! She's previously starred on Broadway in In The Heights (Nina)across from creator Lin-Manuel Miranda and in Wicked(Nessa). Regional: Rent (Mimi); Into the Woods (The Bakers Wife). Arielle originated the roles of (Farhad) in Farhad, or the Secret of Being Off-Broadway, (Gabriella) in the National Tour of Disney's High School Musical, (Nina) in the 1st National Tour of In The Heights, and (Jasmine) in the Australian company of Disney's Aladdin. She's performed on many of America's greatest stages including Lincoln Center in NYC and The Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. Her debut solo album "A Leap in the Dark" came out this year and is available in the lobby.
