BWW Review: 54 DOES 54/THE STAFF SHOW Treats Audience at Feinstein's/54 Below
by Stephen Mosher - Nov 11, 2019

It was their turn. The talented and charming employees of Feinstein's/54 Below had their moment in the spotlight during their Hallowe'en themed staff show. And the SRO crowd had the time of their lives.

BWW Review: BEAUTIFUL Lets the Audience Bask In the Fascinating Music of the '50s-'70s
by Jude Buot - Jun 26, 2019

To manage everyone's expectations, 'Beautiful: The Carole King Musical' is not entirely about the life and music of the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter. Although Carole King's emergence into the popular music scene is what the audiences will follow from start to end, we feel that this show has more to offer than just a summarization of King's life and musicography. This is not to accuse that the show's title is misleading ('Beautiful' is a song from her Grammy-winning album 'Tapestry'). In fact, the other elements present in the show sufficiently give this production a rightful claim to that adjective in its title.

BWW Review: Sprightly, Sassy PIRATES OF PENZANCE Closes TAM Season
by Carla Maria Verdino-Süllwold - Sep 16, 2018

The Theater at Monmouth resumed its tradition of a fall Gilbert and Sullivan production with a sprightly, sassy, clever new take on the beloved chestnut, Gilbert and Sullivan's The Pirates of Penzance. In a significantly trimmed score and re-imagined concept, the work comes alive with a freshness, energy, and new slant to the humor, while retaining the silliness of the script and the appeal of the songs.

BWW Review: Laugh Your Head Off with REP's A COMEDY OF TENORS
by Janine Angela Martinez - Feb 4, 2018

What do you get when you have mistaken identity and false accusation of infidelity mixed with melodrama, comedy, Italian and Russian accents, seduction, misunderstanding, opera, and Lorenz Martinez shifting from one character to another? Definitely, a hilarious night at the theatre.

Gender, Race, and Society Take Center Stage in Theater at Monmouth's 2017 Power, Passion, and Privilege Season
by A.A. Cristi - Feb 23, 2017

This summer, Theater at Monmouth encourages you to "Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none" (All's Well That Ends Well). The plays of Season 48 explore the role of power, passion, and privilege in families, friendships, society, and politics. Through classic Shakespearean thrillers, contemporary romances, and fantastical flights of fantasy, the dynamics of gender, race, and society take center stage in 2017.

BWW Review: WICKED is a Concoction of Memorable Music, Visual Treat
by Vince Vicentuan - Feb 20, 2017

The much-anticipated return of WICKED did not fail to generate the buzz and crowd it was expected to. The throng that trooped to The Theatre at Solaire on February 8 was proof that this hit Broadway musical indeed has a Manila cult following, some of whom wickedly garbed in celebratory costumes, most flamboyant of which was Tessa Prieto-Valdes, a regular on big musical opening nights.

Broadway Producer Jhett Tolentino Talks Road to Broadway, Andrew Keenan-Bolger's Christmas Concert in the Philippines
by Robert Encila - Nov 7, 2016

By sheer serendipity, Jhett Tolentino's scant introduction to the theater in his native province of Iloilo in the Philippines has led him to the industry's rarefied domain as a Broadway producer.

BWW Review: A Little Touch of Harry in the Night: TAM Opens HENRY V
by Carla Maria Verdino-Süllwold - Jul 23, 2016

One of Shakespeare's best-loved history plays, Henry V, opened Friday July 23 at Maine's Theater at Monmouth in a stylish and stirring performance directed by Mark Mineart. Trimmed to a little over two hours, the production, nonetheless, keeps the architecture of the masterpiece and all the most famous speeches, and performed as it is by a strong ensemble, it achieves an immediacy and truthfulness.

BWW Review: SINGIN' IN THE RAIN International Tour 2015
by Rocky Christopher Fajardo - Sep 9, 2015

You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. SINGIN' IN THE RAIN is theatrical proof of how this age-old formula can work wonders. With syrupy and infectious melodies, stunning choreography and visually-stunning sets, this monumentally theatrical homage to the most beloved classics in the Nacio Brown and Arthur Freed canon perfectly fits the bill for a 'Mary J. Blige Pre-Approved' musical- it is uncomplicated, lavish technicolor entertainment--without the drama.

BWW Previews: PRINCE OF BROADWAY at Tokyu Theatre Orb and Other Musicals Scheduled for Tokyo This Fall
by Bonny Loo - Aug 10, 2015

Before iTunes and Spotify came along, I used to collect every original cast CD of any Broadway or West End musical that I could lay my hands on, including foreign language cast recordings. By far, my largest collection of non-English cast CDs consists of Japanese cast recordings, many of which were released by Gekidan Shiki (Shiki Theatre Company). Over the last five decades, Shiki has mounted Japanese-language productions of Applause (1972), Jesus Christ Superstar (1973), West Side Story (1974), A Chorus Line (1979), Evita (1982), Cats (1983), The Phantom of the Opera (1988), Crazy For You (1993), Beauty and the Beast (1995), The Lion King (1998), Aspects of Love (1999), Mamma Mia! (2002), Aida (2003), The Little Mermaid (2013), The Sound of Music (2013), Wicked (2013) and Aladdin (2015).

BWW Interviews: Straight-shooting Krysta Rodriguez Talks Straight From New York Masterclasses
by Katricia Lang - Oct 15, 2014

For your viewing pleasure, I had a conversation with Broadway actress and singer Krysta Rodriguez about her upcoming masterclasses with Straight From New York. Without even seeming to try, she gave an illuminating, dare I say, instructive interview.

BWW Reviews: TAM Stages Compellingly Honest ROMEO AND JULIET
by Carla Maria Verdino-Süllwold - Aug 3, 2014

Doing justice to Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, one of the most beloved and most often quoted plays in the repertoire, can be a daunting task, but the Theater at Monmouth has assembled a youthful cast and given the Bard's tragedy an honest reading - one which compensates for what it may lack in passion and abandon with sincerity and moments of striking originality.

by BWW News Desk - Feb 13, 2011

When local war veteran, Hal Parrott wrote the play, "DUTY", he knew exactly what he wanted to say. There was never a doubt in his mind about the points that would be argued or questions asked.
