The 2024 Season marks a landmark for one of the area's most established and respected theatre organizations.  With the opening of Agatha Christie's A Murder is Announced on January 19, 2024, The Way Off Broadway Dinner Theatre will kick off its Blockbuster 30th Anniversary Season. To celebrate the milestone, WOB's producers have announced a line-up that includes regional premiere productions of some of the newest and biggest name shows to appear on Broadway in recent seasons.

 Composer and pianist Ben Cosgrove will perform in concert at The Park Theatre this Friday, August 25, at 7 pm. The local musical artist will present his award-winning compositions in the Jaffrey performing arts center’s acoustically acclaimed 333-seat Eppes Auditorium.

One of the hit productions of the Bush Theatre’s 50th anniversary year, Red Pitch returns to the Bush Theatre, London for three weeks only from 7 September.  Original cast members Kedar Williams-Stirling, Emeka Sesay and Francis Lovehall play three football-obsessed teens in director Daniel Bailey’s production.

Wilbury Theatre Group will present Clever and Vanglorious Kings' Extended Play for 3 performances only: August 31 - September 2, 2023. Artistic Director Curt Dale Clark concurs, “SOMETHING ROTTEN! is like a game I love to play; it teases you verbally, vocally, and instrumentally to name those Broadway musicals. It is so much fun!” “It is everything I love about musical theatre all in one show,” agrees Lucy Godinez, who plays Bea Bottom. “It’s joyful; it’s fun; there is love. The sense of play in this show gives you the license to fill in the blanks.” Bryant Martin, who plays Nick Bottom, adds that not only is the show great fun with lots of great musical numbers, but it also “speaks to the struggle all artists have dealing with validation. Nick asks why his peers are having success and he isn’t. It’s a situation with which we as actors can easily resonate.” The foursome are serving on a panel moderated by BWW World Maine Editor, Carla Maria Verdino-Süllwold, at MSMT’s final Peek Behind the Curtain on August 16 at Brunswick’s Curtis Memorial Library to discuss MSMT’s hilarious production of SOMETHING ROTTEN! And judging by the laughter in the room, the large audience agrees that the musical by Karey and Wayne Kirkpatrick is not only clever and hugely funny, but a crowd-pleasing hit.

What ties down the project is the one-woman aspect of it. Wilkinson Wright is a tremendous actress, but this direction gives her a staged personality disorder. The framing of the play throws it straight into the action; the performer modulates her voice to shape the different women, but the result is messy and unconvincing, especially if one isn’t familiar with this part of history. It’s not exactly the most streamlined solo show at the Fringe, but it’s among the most compelling subjects for sure.
