BWW Review: Lesli Margherita is All Brass and Belting in One-Woman Show 'Broad' at Birdland, Paying Tribute to the Women Who Never Backed Down
by Casey Mink - Jul 28, 2016

'Broad: A term originated in the 1930s meaning woman. Less respectable than 'lady,' but much more respectable than 'bitch.' Broad: An independent, aggressive, assertive woman, usually in show business. Broads sing loud, are sarcastic, and are in your face. Broads are generally moderately attractive or better, never seen without their best dresses and perfect makeup, and they know how to compete and win in A Man's World.' This is how Lesli Margherita began her one-woman show at Birdland Jazz on July 25, the second of a two-performance return engagement at the club. Reading from a music stand so as not to mince words, Margherita recited the dictionary definition of her show's eponymous moniker, because if nothing else, through Broad, Margherita wanted to make sure her audience understood one thing: Broads like her will never be deterred. Lisa Ricard Claro Releases New Contemporary Romance Novel LOVE TO BELIEVE
by BWW News Desk - Feb 4, 2016

A woman in A Man's World... A man with secrets... Construction manager Rebecca Walker is too busy proving herself in A Man's World to care about romance. Lawyer Sean Kinkaid has private reasons for engaging in sex-only relationships. Close family friends, they agree to a secret no-strings arrangement that tangles their lives and their hearts. Both books in the Fireflies series are available in both print and ebook formats. Book Details: Love to Believe Fireflies Series, Book Two By Lisa Ricard Claro Publisher: Black Opal Books Published: January 30, 2016 ISBN: 978-1626944015 (print) ISBN: 978-1626944008 (ebook) ASIN: B01AS4IL08 Pages: 324 Genre: Contemporary Romance About The Author: Lisa Ricard Claro is a professional editor and award-winning author and Pushcart Prize nominee with published articles and stories spanning multiple media. She resides in Georgia with her husband of more than three decades and counting, is mother to three (a ruggedly handsome son and two stunningly beautiful daughters-?Lisa might be a little biased), and dreams of one day living at the beach. Seriously dreams of it. As in, she's already decorating her dream beach house. In addition to an array of sand dollars and seashells, she keeps a framed sign hanging in her office: Sandy Toes and Salty Kisses Welcome Here. Lisa is also a lover of dogs and cats, and has a heart for rescues. This is why you will find a rescued pet companion in every one of her books. Sometimes they are part of the story line (Pirate the dog, in Love Built to Last), and sometimes they're already ensconced in their forever home with one of Lisa's characters (Pavarotti the cat, in Love to Win). As you read Lisa's books, watch for the rescues. While Lisa is a fan of storytelling in all genres, Romance is her favorite because she believes everyone deserves love and a happily-ever-after. But she adores a little mystery now and then, too, so keep an eye out for Lisa's authorship of a whodunit one of these days soon. BWW Interview: A Woman Standing Up in a Man's World: Kate Fahrner in NEWSIES
by Carla Maria Verdino-Sllwold - Aug 7, 2017

“She a woman standing up in A Man's World, and she won't take no for an answer,” Kate Farhner says admiringly of her current role in Maine State Music Theatre's new production of Disney's Newsies. “Katherine is one of the principal storytellers in the show, and [as a writer], she is unique because she is a woman modeling herself after a man.” The actress who created a sensation last season as Eva Peron returns to the Pickard Theater to work once again with director/choreographer Marc Robin and her Evita co-star Matt Farcher. Farhner recounts how she came to be cast as the young journalist, Katherine Plumber, who becomes involved with strike leader, Jack Kelly, and helps the newsboys win their objectives. “I had gone in to audition for Sarah Brown in Guys and Dolls, and Marc Robin asked me if I knew Katherine's song “Watch What Happens.” I didn't, but I prepared it and sang it for them at the callback. When Matt walked in, I knew this was going to be a dream to play this part. We didn't get to interact much in Evita, but we do as Katherine and Jack, and there is a little more of ourselves in these roles.” (more...)
