Throughout Black History Month this February, many Chicago theatres will present productions honoring the Black experience featuring Black theatres and theatre-makers.

RED BULL THEATER has announced that Lesli Margherita, Simon Pearl, Michael Pilato, and Vaden Thurgood have been added to the cast of their one-night-only benefit performance of the hit 1968 rock musical Your Own Thing.

After 28 Seasons Julianne Boyd, co-founder and Artistic Director at Barrington Stage Company, passed a brightly burning torch and retired at the end of the 2022 season. Producers Sonia Friedman and Tom Kirdahy have announced that the brand new Kander & Ebb musical, NEW YORK, NEW YORK, will begin performances on Broadway Friday, March 24, 2023 and officially open Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at Broadway’s St. James Theatre.

The new Parsons Theatre opens its doors on Oct. 9. To celebrate, Northglenn Arts Presents offers up a five-show season in the new facility beginning Oct. 15.

Westport Country Playhouse has selected two HD videos from its archives of performances captured live on stage for streaming on demand. The Playhouse’s 2018 production of “Man of La Mancha,” the Tony Award-winning musical following Don Quixote’s quest for “The Impossible Dream,” will stream on-demand from Monday, August 23-Sunday, September 5.

Madison Lyric Stage, a professional theater company serving the Connecticut shoreline and the Connecticut River valley, will present Mart Crowley’s landmark play The Boys in the Band for eight performances July 22 – August 1.  Both hilarious and poignant, the dark comedy will be presented outdoors under a large tent on the grounds of Madison’s Deacon John Grave House.

In addition to the momentous milestone reached with “Have You Ever Seen the Rain” this month, their hits “Bad Moon Rising” and “Fortunate Son” also landed in the Rock Digital Song Sales Top Ten (reaching No. 9 and No. 10 respectively). 

Westport Country Playhouse will add to its 2021 Season lineup the HD video production from its archives, “Of Mice and Men,” by Nobel Prize and Pulitzer Prize-winning author John Steinbeck, streaming on demand, Monday, September 13 through Sunday, September 26.

Edmund Bagnell, 1st Violinist & vocalist of the internationally acclaimed group Well-Strung, will bring his new solo show Happy Days Are Here Again, directed by and co-written with Michael Schiralli, to the Crown & Anchor’s P-Town lineup for a summer-long run this season from July 6 - August 31.
