At a community and media event held at the Monument-National's cafe on Thursday September 6th, The Montreal English Theatre Awards Committee announced the nominees for this year's Awards Ceremony. The Montreal English Theatre Awards (METAs) recognize and celebrate outstanding artistic work in Montreal's English Theatre. Established in 2012, the peer-juried awards exist to promote professional and emerging English theatre artists and companies, to heighten their visibility both regionally and beyond, and to elevate the level of critical discourse about theatre in Montreal amongst artists and with the community at large. Main Street Theatre Works Presents THE 39 STEPS

The finest radio dramas of the 1930's was The Mercury Theater On The Air, founded by Orson Welles and John Houseman. Together, they presented many classic pieces of literature, and shook the country with it's terrifying staging of "War of the Worlds." Main Street Theatre Works (MSTW) is re-creating one of these literary classic radio plays, The 39 Steps, complete with live sound effects. This limited-engagement fundraiser will have two matinee performances ~ Saturday & Sunday, October 20th & 21st, and one evening performance on that Saturday night, at the Native Sons Hall in Sutter Creek. Tickets are $25 and include a dessert bar, coffee or tea, and the show. A no-host wine bar will be available Saturday. (more...)

BWW Review: AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS Is Your Imagination Personified at A.D. Players

The year is 1872, the setting is London, and the bet was made at exactly 8:55pm for 20,000 pounds. Or, at least that's how our practical, punctual main character Phileas Fogg would describe the scene. Fogg, a logical and calculated gentleman is willing to bet his entire fortune on the latest claim that with the developments of railways and steam engines, one is able to go around the world in 80 Days (I bet you can guess the title of this little play now, huh?). Fogg is so convinced, that he intends to complete the trip himself, with his newly hired servant Passepartout (Braden Hunt), and a few others that get strung into the chaotic voyage along the way. Shakespeare's Globe has announced the full cast of Ralegh: The Treason Trial, compiled, edited, dramatized and directed by Oliver Chris. A verbatim account of what played out on that extraordinary November morning in 1603, the production has been compiled and edited from sources present at the trial itself. It will premiere in Winchester Great Hall from Friday 16 November, the location of the original trial 415 years ago, before opening in the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse on Saturday 24 November for a limited one week run. The all-female cast has been confirmed for the world premiere production of The Worst Witch which opens at Royal & Derngate this Christmas as part of the theatre's Made in Northampton season. An original story for the stage by Emma Reeves (Royal Television Society Award for Best Children's TV Programme and 2017 British Screenwriters Award for Best Children's Programme) based upon Jill Murphy's beloved series of classic novels The Worst Witch, the production will be directed by Theresa Heskins (2017 UK Theatre Award for Best Show for Children and Young People) and designed by Simon Daw, with music by Luke Potter. SWEENEY TODD Comes to The Everyman

A politically-charged production of the gruesome musical Sweeney Todd (Fri 12 Apr to Sat 18 May) will be brought to life on the Everyman stage in April 2019. Directed by Nick Bagnall, the production explores the social inequalities in a decaying nineteenth century England ruled by the corruption of the upper classes. Liam Tobin (Everyman Company 2017 and 2018) plays the role of Sweeney Todd, with the full cast to be announced in the New Year.
