Romeo and Juliet at Reconnect Howden Park

West Lothian company Reconnect Theatres present Shakespeare's iconic love story Romeo & Juliet at the Reconnect Howden Park in February 2026.

In this modern retelling of a Shakespeares classic. A long-standing feud between the Montague and Capulet families turns deadly, yet amidst the hatred, young Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet fall in love at first sight. Secretly marrying, their romance is soon thwarted by fate and violence, leading to a desperate, doomed plan that forces the lovers to choose between their lives and their separation…

Director of this production and Assistant Creative Director of Reconnect Theatres, Sam Stuart Fraser expressed; “It’s an incredibly exciting opportunity to take on arguably the most famous of Shakespeare's plays and with such an amazing cast. Directing Shakespeare is no easy feat, but with such a talented team around me it has been an absolute pleasure, and I think what we’ve created is something really quite special” This production of Romeo & Juliet features an entirely Scottish cast, full of some of Scotland’s finest up and coming talent. Emerging actors, Ben McGuiness (Almost Everything, Recipient of the Laurence Olivier Bursary Award) and Eilidh Rose (Teddybear, The Scottish Graduate Showcase) lead the cast as Romeo and Juliet respectively. Assistant Director, Kirsty Morrison commented; “the cast have been so detailed and generous in creating such well rounded and humane characters, you root for each and every one of them making the inevitable even more heartbreaking”
