The Fifth Step is a gripping new play by David Ireland that delves into the complexities of recovery and intimacy through the lens of Alcoholics Anonymous. Directed by Finn den Hertog, this two-hander features Jack Lowden as Luka, a newcomer seeking guidance, and Sean Gilder as James, a seasoned AA member. As they navigate their pasts and the twelve steps, the play explores themes of shame and redemption. The production opens at the Royal Lyceum Theatre in Edinburgh following its preview performances in Dundee and will also tour to Glasgow after the Edinburgh International Festival.
