By: Nicolas Coburn Jul. 26, 2010
6th Street Playhouse proudly presents 'Solofest of the West.' This new annual series presented in the 6th Street Playhouse Studio Theatre starts off with a bang, showcasing stories from the most popular solo playwrights and performers in the Bay Area.
- "Wretch Like Me" - A totally righteous one-sinner-show. The outrageous, true story of a former teenage fundamentalist and how he was saved from being "saved" was the 2010 Stage One Theater Arts Award winner For Best Original Show. Infused with entertaining cultural and social references from 1960s & '70s, David Templeton's autobiographical episodic adventure about being teenager searching for the meaning of life as a born-again Christian is charming, haunting, thought provoking and hilariously funny. Sunday matinee performances include post-show discussion with writer-performer David Templeton. - "Chicken" - Matthew Kerns stars is this solo piece about one man's story of life, liberty and the pursuit of healthiness in the shadow of HIV. Can peanut butter, show tunes, and a chain-smoking mother be the answer? Named "Critiques Choice," by The Chicago Reader and proclaimed "A Must See!" by National Public Radio.8 p.m. Fridays - Aug. 6, 13, 20 and 27
