SD Rep Presents THE COMPLETE WORKS OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE (ABRIDGED) 6/11-20

The San Diego Repertory Theatre presents The Reduced Shakespeare Company's classic comedy THE COMPLETE WORKS OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE (ABRIDGED) during the weekends of June 11th to the 20th. They are also presenting THE SHOW ACROSS THE STREET as part of the 17th Annual Lipinsky Family Jewish Arts Festival from June 2nd to the 6th. All performances are at the Lyceum Theatre at 79 Horton Plaza.

NEA Chairman Rocco Landesman and Blue Star Families Chairman Kathy Roth-Douquet announced the launch of Blue Star Museums, a partnership with more than 600 museums across America to offer free admission to all active duty military personnel and their families from Memorial Day through Labor Day 2010. Balboa Park Puppet Theater announces their May 2010 Schedule, along with one June production. Shows include THE PRINCESS AND THE PEA, RUMPELSTILTSKIN, THE TORTOISE AND THE HARE, and MAXFIELD'S TIME TRAVELING FLEA CIRCUS. All shows are at the Marie Hitchcock Puppet Theater in Balboa Park (2130 Pan American Place). Tickets are $3 for Children ages 3 and up, $5 for Adults, and $4 for Seniors, 65 and over. 'Golda's Balcony' Starring Feldshuh Closes at Old Globe Theatre, 5/30

Executive Producer Lou Spisto has announced that due to unforeseen conflicts with Roger Rees' schedule, The Old Globe's upcoming production of What You Will has been replaced with Golda's Balcony starring four-time Tony Award nominee Tovah Feldshuh. Written by William Gibson and supervised by Scott Schwartz, Golda's Balcony earned Feldshuh a Tony Award nomination for Best Actress, and is the longest running one-woman show in Broadway history. Golda's Balcony will runin the Old Globe Theatre April 28 - May 30. Previews run April 28 - May 1. Opening night is Saturday, May 1 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are currently available to subscribers only. Single tickets go on sale March 28 at 12:00 noon and can be purchased online at www.TheOldGlobe.org, by phone at (619) 23-GLOBE or by visiting the Box Office.
Diversionary's MOSCOW Closes 5/30

Diversionary Theatre will stage the musical play Moscow as the sixth and final show of their 2009-2010 season. Moscow is a musical play involving three men attempting to define who they are and why they are confined together in an abandoned theatre. While enduring their 'soul searching,' they make use of their time by playing sockball and by acting out various roles from Anton Chekhov's play The Three Sisters. While self exploration, relationship conflict and gay romance are part of the chemistry, Moscow amplifies universal and eternal questions: 'Who are we, Where are we, and Why are we here?'

While Artistic Director Sean Murray's Sweeney Todd is currently slashing up the Cygnet Theatre stage, final casting has been completed for the upcoming production of Noël Coward's Private Lives. Co-Directed by Cygnet Artistic Director Sean Murray and Associate Artistic Director Francis Gercke, the cast includes Manny Fernandes, Annie Hinton, Jessica John, Sean Murray and Shana Wride. Private Lives will run May 27th through July 3rd, 2010 at Cygnet's Old Town Theatre.

Alice Ripley, who received the 2009 Tony Award® for Best Actress in a Musical for her performance in the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award®-winning Next to Normal, will return to San Diego, where she spent several years performing in local productions, to reprise her acclaimed performance in the musical's 36-week multi-city North American tour, launching November 23 at the Center Theatre Group/Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles. It will play in San Diego January 18-23, 2011 at the Balboa Theatre, as part of the current season of Broadway/San Diego ~ A Nederlander Presentation.

William Roesch Named Associate Artist of The Old Globe

Old Globe Executive Producer Lou Spisto named William Roesch an Associate Artist of The Old Globe at a ceremony held on May 24. He is the 53rd artist to receive the prestigious honor which recognizes his unique contribution to the institution. Roesch both directed and acted at the Globe for more than 20 years and served as Associate Artistic Director from 1962 to 1969.

Old Globe Executive Producer Lou Spisto announces that the memorial service honoring Founding Director of The Old Globe, Craig Noel, on Monday, May 24 at 7:00 p.m. will now be held at the historic Spreckels Organ Pavilion in Balboa Park. The memorial, 'Celebrating the Theatrical Legacy of Craig Noel,' was originally scheduled to be held in the Old Globe Theatre. Due to the size of the response, the event has been moved to the larger outdoor venue. Following the service, a reception will be held on the theater's Copley Plaza, a short walk from the Pavilion. The memorial service is free and open to all.

In celebration of California's Day of Recognition honoring Harvey Milk on May 22, Diversionary Theatre will present two readings of the play Dear Harvey. Drawn from over thirty interviews conducted by Patricia Loughrey, Dear Harvey recounts the achievements and vision of Harvey Milk, the first openly gay man elected to a major public office in the United States. The tribute play weaves together the voices of a drag queen, a State Senator, an international gay rights activist, a nineteen-year-old composer and others with the personal and political writings of Harvey Milk to paint a portrait of a leader, and a vision for equality.
