Rodney Atkins to Play Pioneer Day, 7/24
Tennessee native and country music sensation Rodney Atkins will help audiences at the SCERA Shell Outdoor Theatre celebrate the state's Pioneer Day holiday with half a dozen number one hits and an award as top new male recording artist from the Academy of Country Music.
The Tuesday, July 24 concert will begin at 8 p.m. at the SCERA Shell Outdoor Theatre, located at 699 S. State, Orem, in the middle of SCERA Park. General admission tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for children (age 3-11), seniors (age 65+) and students (with ID). Reserved section tickets range from $30-$35 for adults and $25-$30 for children, seniors and students. Tickets are available from 10am-6pm weekdays and Saturdays from 12Noon-6pm at the main office of SCERA Center for the Arts, 745 South State, Orem, by calling (801) 225-ARTS, online at www.scera.org or at the gate 90 minutes prior to performance.
Known for his ability to strike a chord with the country listener, Atkins' music, which reflects his hometown roots, centers on the joys of getting away from everyday life, living in the moment, and getting right with your soul. Millions of fans have downloaded his music –more than five million singles in the past five years alone-and radios have given him a lot of play time, typified by "If You're Going Through Hell," which clocked in as the most played country song of the year when it debuted in 2006. Other favorite chart toppers include "Farmer's Daughter," "These Are My People" and "Watching You."
An award-winning singer/songwriter, Atkins has been a regular on the Top 40 charts since 2003. "If You're Going Through Hell" became his first number one single, an achievement he repeated a year later when his "Watching You" went to number one and became the top country song of 2007. His fifth number one song, "It's America," made 2009 a good recording year, and in 2011, he topped the platinum charts again with "Take A Back Road" from his album release of the same name.
Atkins says he realizes being distinctive is any artist's big challenge, but has achieved that distinction with catchy choruses, breezy vibes, and a laid-back sound combined with a vocal intensity and his aw-shucks, down-home likeability. He says off stage he is soft-spoken and serious, but on stage he adds a huge dose of energy that he explains as letting his "shadow come out to play."
