The Courthouse Center for the Arts is proud to announce West Side Story, July 9-26, 2009. This adaptation of Shakespeare's 'Romeo and Juliet' is transported to modern-day New York City with two rival gangs; the American Jets and the Puerto Rican Sharks. Maria, the leader of the Sharks' younger sister and Tony, a former Jet are from opposite sides of town and opposite walks of life but they encounter each other at a dance and instantly fall in love.
Rhode Island International Film Festival To Screen 235 Films During 13TH Annual RIFF EVENT

With films and filmmakers arriving from across the globe, the Rhode Island International Film Festival (RIIFF) kicks off its 13th annual event August 4th-9th, 2009. This year 235 feature length, documentary and short films - from 57 countries - will be screened over a six-day period In locations throughout the state, all vying for top awards. Out of over 7,000 film festivals worldwide, RIIFF is one of only 63 Academy Award qualifying Festivals. This year's films have been selected from a record entry base of over 3,000 submissions.
Rhode Island Monthly Votes PPAC 'Best Theater' In 2009 Readers Poll

Rhode Island Monthly President and Publisher John J. Palumbo announced that PPAC was voted 'Best Theater' in the 2009 Rhode Island Monthly Readers' Poll at last night's Best of Rhode Island Party. The party, which has been held at PPAC for the past five years, benefits ArtReach, which is an educational partnership between PPAC and Rhode Island Monthly.

Closing Ceremony for the Providence 48HFP will be on Saturday, August 15th at 7:00 PM. A combination screening/awards ceremony/wrap party for the Best of Providence 48 HFP will take place.

In preparation for their roles in Ocean State Theatre Company's production of Peter Pan currently on stage at Theatre By The Sea, three young teenage actresses, Lauren Avarista of Narragansett, Cassie Collinson of West Kingston, and Caroline Jackson of Marlborough, Ct., decided to turn their transformation from young women to 'lost boys' into a good deed by donating over 32' of hair to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program, which weaves donated hair into real-hair wigs for cancer patients.
