Review: WATER FOR ELEPHANTS at The Overture Center

Review: WATER FOR ELEPHANTS at The Overture Center

Madison: Scott Rawson • June 17, 2026

I truly enjoyed Water for Elephants far more than I thought I would. I came to the theater fearing the puppetry of the elephant would over shadow the actors. While it was spectacular, it did not over shadow the actors and for that I am grateful. And in an effort of full disclosure, admittedly, I also really hate the circus. No need to judge, just offering a little vulnerability here. Still, in spite of that I enjoyed the performance a great deal.

Review: SUFFS at The National Theatre

Review: SUFFS at The National Theatre

Washington, DC: Aidan O'Connor • June 17, 2026

The women’s suffrage movement in the United States spanned 72 years, finally concluding in 1920 when women gained the right to vote. Thousands of women lended their lives to the cause with a hope for the future, that subsequent generations would be inspired by the suffragists. Yet, their names were consistently left out of history books. Until Shaina Taub’s Suffs. Suffs at The National Theatre revives the legacy of luminaries like Alice Paul and Ida B. Wells through a musical journey that cements the suffragists’ rightful place in history.

Review: 10 DAYS IN A MADHOUSE at Bluma Appel Theatre: St. Lawrence Centre For The Arts

Toronto: Keira Grant • June 17, 2026

Every aspect of 10 Days in a Madhouse, directed by Joanna Settle, exemplified why opera has the power to bring stories to life in ways that no other genre can. Score, libretto, set, costumes, lighting, and vocal and orchestral performances of the highest quality mingled into something that was more than the sum of its parts, rendering a haunting true story with more nuance and pathos than theatre, film, or literature alone could have achieved.

Review: SEARED at Austin Playhouse

Review: SEARED at Austin Playhouse

Austin: Sabrina Wallace • June 17, 2026

Austin Playhouse’s Seared, directed by Lara Toner Haddock, serves up a grounded, well-paced production with strong ensemble work and a working kitchen that adds real texture. The staging feels alive, even when Theresa Rebeck’s script leans preachy and predictable.

Review: ROOTED Grows Beyond Its Premise at Live Theatre Workshop

Review: ROOTED Grows Beyond Its Premise at Live Theatre Workshop

Phoenix: Robert Encila-Celdran • June 17, 2026

The crowd itself remains unseen, but a growing cult hangs over nearly every scene, transforming Emery’s private sanctuary into something far more complicated. Michael Zimmerman's sound design gives the invisible crowd a character of its own, a foreboding entity lurking just behind the treeline. The production's real challenge lies in sustaining the sense of a growing

Review: A BEAUTIFUL NOISE NATIONAL TOUR at Stranahan Theatre

Cleveland: Julie Zatko • June 17, 2026

The national tour of A Beautiful Noise rocks into town this week, bringing enough sequins to light up all of Toledo. As the final engagement of Broadway in Toledo’s 2025–2026 season, this musical offers a closer look at the life of Neil Diamond while delivering a thoroughly entertaining evening of music and storytelling. It’s a beautiful celebration of Diamond’s catalog and a rare glimpse into the man behind the legend. Filled with iconic hits, a stellar cast, and an emotionally resonant story, A Beautiful Noise is a memorable theatrical experience.

Review: BEAUTY AND THE BEAST at Broadway In Tucson

Phoenix: Zach Wetzel • June 17, 2026

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, the reimagined Broadway touring musical, is a truly magical experience at Centennial Hall. This touring production, which features new musical arrangements and choreography, is largely a success. The production mostly stays faithful to the music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice and book by Linda Woolverton.

Directed by Gustavo Barchilon, this one-night benefit concert brings together leading stars of Brazilian musical theatre, accompanied by the São Paulo Big Band and Orchestra. Through iconic songs from Broadway classics, the production pays tribute to the extraordinary contribution of Jewish composers, lyricists and producers who helped shape American musical theatre, while also honoring the pioneers who introduced the genre to Brazil. Review: THE ROOMMATE at Profile Theatre

Oregon: Krista Garver • June 17, 2026

Profile Theatre's THE ROOMMATE is a dark comedy that surprises, moves, and lingers, with knockout performances by Gail Dartez and Eleanor O'Brien. One week left, don't miss it.

Review: UNTITLED VAMPIRE PLAY at Lookingglass Theatre Company

Review: UNTITLED VAMPIRE PLAY at Lookingglass Theatre Company

Chicago: Rachel Weinberg • June 17, 2026

Untitled Vampire Play — a world premiere from Lookingglass ensemble member Kevin Douglas — is a fun, wacky romp. The play doesn’t take itself seriously, and director Devon de Mayo’s cast has plenty of fun with vampire and human antics alike. Douglas’s script draws on all sorts of vampire lore for his vision and vividly imagines what it might be like if vampires roamed the streets of Chicago.

Review: EVIL LIBRARIAN: A NEW MUSICAL at Landless Theatre Company

Washington, DC: Rachael F. Goldberg • June 17, 2026

Many of us have less-than-fond memories of high school, and can relate to the idea that “high school is hell” – enough so that a musical about a high school literally at the mouth of hell, overrun by demons and evildoing feels fairly apropos.

Review: AMAZING GRAVES Sets Two Short Plays Inside the Same Cemetery

Los Angeles: Shari Barrett • June 17, 2026

Have you ever wondered what really goes on in cemeteries when memories are shared with those seen and unseen at grave sites?  Then head on over to see two, funny and life-affirming plays in this year’s Hollywood Fringe Festival, bundled together as Amazing Graves, produced by Amanda Lynne for Neo Ensemble Theatre.

Review: THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG at Keegan Theatre

Review: THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG at Keegan Theatre

Washington, DC: David Friscic • June 17, 2026

The Play That Goes Wrong, now playing at the Keegan Theatre, amusingly subverts classic murder mystery tropes by merrily mixing the physical comedy of the Three Stooges with the verbal intricacy of the Marx Brothers. This frenetically and madcap play conveys the double-entendre of Charlie Chan and the mass appeal of detectives we have all come to know through literature and film (for, indeed, the marvelous Matthew Pauli does a superb job of portraying “Chris” as Inspector Carter-- who reminded me of an absent-minded  Hercule Poirot or Miss Marple).

Review: Diana Varco Shares Her Journey to RISE Above Childhood Rage

Los Angeles: Shari Barrett • June 16, 2026

It's a very well done, confrontational hour-long play at this year’s Hollywood Fringe Festival, but also life-affirming to know none of us are alone in the struggle for emotional maturity rather than turn to the easy crutches of overeating, alcohol abuse, drug use or unbridled sex to forget about where the Rage holding our emotions in place is rooted.

Review: COMPANY at Rise Up Theatre Company

Sacramento: Courtney Symes • June 16, 2026

Coming off a successful run of The Drowsy Chaperone at Cosumnes River College, Rise Up Theatre Company is tackling another fan favorite. Stephen Sondheim's Company has long been regarded as an insightful and groundbreaking comedy. In this latest production, director Courtney Conklin impressively rises to the challenge that Sondheim poses, offering an engaging and emotionally relatable interpretation that showcases both the strengths of the cast and the continuing relevance of the material.

Review: NICKELODEON THE SPONGEBOB MUSICAL YOUTH EDITION at Ritz Civic Center

Arkansas: Theresa Bertram • June 16, 2026

Starting a new theatre company is a leap of faith. Launching that company with a full-scale musical featuring a cast of young performers is even bolder. Yet that is exactly what Kaitlyn Rose Vacco Woodall accomplished with THE SPONGEBOB MUSICAL: YOUTH EDITION, presented June 5-7 by Rosewood Repertory at the historic Ritz Civic Center.
