Review: LES MISERABLES at The Muny is a an Exquisite Production Filled with World-Class Vocal Talent
St. Louis: James Lindhorst on June 19, 2024

The Muny has set a high bar for the remaining productions of their 106th season with an exquisite production of a beloved classic. Seth Skylar-Heyn's collaboration across his entire production team brought a fresh production of Les Misérables to the stage and captured all the emotion of the original production. He filled his cast with dozens of magnificent voices led by the extraordinary performances of John Riddle and Jordan Donica.

Review: LIFE OF PI, Theatre Royal, Glasgow
Scotland: Natalie O'Donoghue on June 19, 2024

After conquering the West End and Broadway, the 5 star ‘theatrical phenomenon’ embarks on its biggest adventure yet. Don’t miss the West End and Broadway spectacle on its first ever UK tour.

Review: GREASE, Kings Theatre Glasgow
Scotland: Mary Baillie on June 19, 2024

Adopting Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey's original stage version, the production deviates from the famous movie starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. Here we see subversive, sex-driven working-class teenagers among industrial Chicago instead of beachy California. Sandy Olsson is now Sandy Dumbrowski (reflecting the '50s influx of Polish immigrants), the infamous T-birds are the Burger Palace Boys. There is an undertone of gang warfare as the rebellious group often push against authority getting in trouble with the police - it's giving West Side Story.

Review: THE TAMING OF THE SHREW, Shakespeare's Globe
UK / West End: Alexander Cohen on June 19, 2024

Jude Christian's new production playfully inverts Shakespeare's misogyny

Review Roundup: Did KISS ME, KATE Delight the Critics?
UK / West End: Aliya Al-Hassan on June 19, 2024

A new production of Cole Porter’s Kiss Me, Kate, starring Adrian Dunbar and Broadway Royalty and Tony Award Winner Stephanie J. Block, making her West End debut, has now opened.

Review: DROP THE DEAD DONKEY: THE REAWAKENING, Richmond Theatre
UK / West End: Aliya Al-Hassan on June 19, 2024

Starring original cast members Susannah Doyle, Robert Duncan, Ingrid Lacey, Neil Pearson, Jeff Rawle, Stephen Tompkinson and Victoria Wicks, this new stage version sees the team are thrust back together in the world of 24-hour rolling news, social media and algorithms at a new TV station with the distinctly tongue-in-cheek name, Truth News.

Review: EVOLUTIONARIES at Shadowbox Live
Columbus: Paul Batterson on June 18, 2024

Under the direction of Julie Klein, the theater troupe weaves together the divergent catalogue of the two icons with a variety of singers and styles, multimedia presentations, and the storytelling of Michelle Daniels.

Review: KISS ME, KATE, Barbican Theatre
UK / West End: Gary Naylor on June 18, 2024

Adrian Dunbar is the starriest of a starry cast, but lacks the specific experience required to lead the show to its fullest potential

Review: ONE FOR JOHNNY MERCER at Dizzy's Was One Fine Show
Cabaret: Rob Lester on June 18, 2024

ONE FOR JOHNNY MERCER at Dizzy's was another treat in the Songbook Sundays series. Johnny Mercer had a way with words. Stritch, Blackhurst, Stravelli and Lee have a way of singing and winging them. Duke Ellington's turn comes in August.

Review: LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS at PCPA: Solvang Festival Theater
Santa Barbara: Anna Jensen on June 18, 2024

Little Shop of Horrors director/choreographer Keenan Hooks blends camp sensibilities with emotional honesty in his staging of this musical. The theatricality of the puppeteering in this send-up of B-horror flicks like “The Day of the Triffids” or “It Came from Outer Space” and 1960s pop tunes make it worth the price of admission.

Review: JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR at Porthouse Theatre - KSU School Of Theatre And Dance
Cleveland: Roy Berko on June 18, 2024

What did our critic think of JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR at Porthouse Theatre--KSU School Of Theatre And Dance?

Review: 53% OF at Center Theatre At Seattle Center
Seattle: Shelley Dean on June 18, 2024

Are you a good person? Does anyone truly know if they are? Countless factors go into deciding such a weighted answer, for a lot of people, politics plays a large role. 53% Of is a direct work of art that attempts to answer that question, paying special attention to that factor. The show, wittingly directed by Shermona Mitchell & Teresa Thuman has opened at Center Theatre at Seattle Center.

Review: BETRAYAL at REC ROOM ARTS through July 6th
Houston: Brett Cullum on June 18, 2024

BETRAYAL is everything you want from a REC ROOM production. It is thoughtful, well-acted, and designed especially for a small space. Sophia Watt and her company drive home the conflicts and the feelings of confusion and loss when an affair falls apart messily and mercilessly.

Review: TOPDOG/UNDERDOG Rises to the Top at Celebration Arts
Sacramento: Courtney Symes on June 18, 2024

Celebration Arts’ season of Black Girl Magic continues with its production of TOPDOG/UNDERDOG. Playwright Suzan-Lori Parks became the first Black woman to win a Pulitzer Prize for Drama for this work in 2002. In 2023 it won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play.

Review: ANASTASIA THE MUSICAL at Theatre In The Park
Kansas City: Alan Portner on June 18, 2024

Second show this spring at the Shawnee Mission Park Theatre In The Park, is ANASTASIA, a 2017 fairy tale based on a wished-for result concerning the Russian Grand Duchess Anatasia. This, in turn, was based on an earlier 1997 animated film and an even earlier imagining in a 1956 film. ANASTASIA the Musical is fortunate to have found some super voices for all its lead roles.

Review: LA CAGE AUX FOLLES at Barrington Stage Company
Boston: Marc Savitt on June 18, 2024

'We’re extremely fortunate to have Alex Michaels, perhaps best known for their drag persona Alexis Michelle on “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” and the dashing Tom Story as our Albin and Georges. With a brilliant cast and helmed by Mike Donohue with high-flying choreography from Paul McGill, we think BSC audiences are in for a treat.” I wholeheartedly agree.

Review: StageDoor's Razor-Sharp SWEENEY TODD Deserves a Nod
Denver: Chris Arneson on June 18, 2024

Nearly 50 years after its inception, Sweeney Todd still feels on the cutting edge of musical theatre. With music and lyrics by Sondheim and a book by Hugh Wheeler, the production currently playing at Conifer's StageDoor Theatre is a darkly compelling tale of revenge, love, and madness.

Review: REEFER MADNESS at The Reefer Den
Los Angeles: Harker Jones on June 18, 2024

Everyone is phenomenal, from the performers to the musicians to the set director. It’s manically goofy, laugh-out-loud funny, and sexy in its degradation.

Review: THE HOUSE THAT SEX BUILT at Teatro Audaz
San Antonio: Jill Ripa on June 18, 2024

Teatro Audaz lived up to its name this last weekend in its production of The House That Sex Built by Rita Anderson. Only a bold, audacious group like Teatro could take on a script like this.

With a Soap Opera Narrative and Regional Inspiration, UM GRANDE ENCONTRO – O MUSICAL Celebrates Love, Dreams and Challenges

The dream, the desire and the need. These are the matrices that generate the conflicts and questions in Um Grande Encontro – O Musical (A Great Encounter), wich opens on June 21st in Sao Paulo, directed by Jarbas Homem de Mello and Tulio Rivadavia. The show brings a dramaturgy stitched together by timeless songs and Popular Brazilian Music hits.
