Fourth Annual Free Night of Theater Returns to Portland This October

This October, the Portland Area Theatre Alliance (PATA) presents Portland's fourth annual Free Night of Theater, a national movement celebrating the magic of live performance. More than 20 theater companies in the Portland area will join hundreds across the nation in reaching out to new audience members with the opportunity to attend live theater completely free of charge.
OSF Executive Director Paul Nicholson to Retire October 2012

Oregon Shakespeare Festival Executive Director Paul Nicholson has announced that he will retire in December 2012. The Board of Directors accepted his retirement plans at the board meeting today and has hired Greg Kandel of Management Consultants for the Arts, based in Stamford, Connecticut, to begin the search for a new executive director.
CarlosAlexis Cruz Awarded Princess Grace Foundation Fellowship

Miracle Theatre Group is pleased to announce that actor CarlosAlexis Cruz has been awarded a 2011 Princess Grace Theater Fellowship from the Princess Grace Foundation-USA. Cruz was also selected as the 2011 recipient of the Grace le Vine Theater Award. National in scope, the Princess Grace Foundation-USA is dedicated to identifying and assisting emerging talent in theater, dance and film by awarding grants in the form of scholarships, apprenticeships and fellowships.

Wells Fargo Broadway in Eugene Awards $1000 to Churchill High School

The Wells Fargo Broadway In Eugene Education Fund has awarded $1,000 to Churchill High School in Eugene to support its theater education program in the 2011-12 school year. Churchill High School is partnering with members of the West End Performing Arts Academy to produce the student-directed musical Forever Plaid. Two performances are planned for the late spring of 2012. All aspects of the production will be student directed by Joshua King under the mentoring of Al Villanueva, a community choreographer and a volunteer technical mentor.

The production, directed by Ron Daum, presents the story of rough and tumble Annie Oakley and her rise to fame and romance with headliner Frank Butler. Irving Berlin's memorable songs make this a bull's-eye hit for everyone.
THE REAL AMERICANS Opens 9/9 at Portland Stage

Actor/Journalist Dan Hoyle journeys into the Heartland to meet The Real Americans this fall at Portland Center Stage. The one-man show is based on a months-long road trip into the not-the-coasts parts of the US and meets the real people living outside the 'latte liberal bubble' and explores what rural America is really thinking. The Real Americans previews on Tuesday September 6th, opens on Friday, September 9th, and runs Tuesday through Sunday through November 6. Tickets start at $26, with student and under 30 discounts available. Rush tickets are $20. Show times are 7:30 pm Tuesday through Saturday, with a 2:00 pm Sunday matinee and alternating Saturday 2:00 pm and Sunday 7:30 pm performances.

PCS Announces New Chair of Board of Trustees

Portland Center Stage announces Steve Hedberg, a partner at Perkins Coie, LLP as the new chair of the board of trustees at Portland's largest professional theater company. Hedberg was elected chair, along with seven other officers, by the full board in June 2011 and began his post July 1.

Miracle Theatre Group, the Northwest's premier Latino arts and culture organization, is pleased to announce its 'Take a Seat' campaign, a capital improvement project prompted by audience feedback surveys.
