The Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre School continues to spread the magic of 'The Nutcracker' this season by bringing excerpts of the production to UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh on Wednesday, Dec. 18 at 2:30 p.m. Patients, families and staff will be treated to a 30-minute performance featuring vignettes of the classic holiday ballet and will have the opportunity to meet and take photographs with the student dancers.

City Theatre Set to Open New Philip Chosky Production Center

Since 1991, when City Theatre moved to its current location on Bingham Street on the South Side, the production artisans behind the nearly 170 shows seen on its two stages during this time have endured a type-of performance of their own: nicknamed the 'City Theatre Shuffle,' scenery and props have been built, painted, assembled, and moved in disparate cramped spaces with poor lighting and limited assembly area. While boasting an impressive props collection, they are located, inconveniently, over a mile away. City's long-time Director of Production, Tony Ferrieri, has worked without a window in his basement office for 28 years.

On Friday, Nov. 15 at 4 p.m., Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre (PBT) will celebrate the dedication of its building at 2900 Liberty Ave. in the Strip District in honor of founder Loti Falk Gaffney and Leon Falk Jr. The building will be permanently gifted to PBT by the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre Trust, a separate nonprofit organization that held the deed to the building.

The Mildred Miller International Voice Competition was founded in 2011 to identify and nurture talented young singers. The competition is named for Pittsburgh Festival Opera founder Mildred Miller Posvar, who sang for 26 illustrious seasons at the Metropolitan Opera and other world capitals. Miller's acclaimed recordings include Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde with conductor Bruno Walter, Mozart's Le Nozze de Figaro with Erich Leinsdorf, and the commemorative concert and album celebrating the Boston Pops Orchestra 100th anniversary with Arthur Fiedler.
