???????The boy-meets-girl story gets a facelift in Heisenberg, a new romantic comedy by contemporary British playwright Simon Stephens. A new August Wilson American Century Cycle Award honors theater companies that have staged all ten Cycle plays. The award is the creation of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and co-sponsored by the August Wilson House - the playwright's hometown newspaper and his childhood home in Pittsburgh's Hill District. Constanza Romero Wilson and the August Wilson Estate are providing advisory support. (more...)

The Pittsburgh CLO Membership is proud to announce the election of Helen Hanna Casey as Pittsburgh CLO's new Chairman of the Board of Directors. She is the 15th Chairman in the organization's history and the first woman to serve in this role. The membership also elected two new directors during its Annual Meeting on February 1, 2018 at the Duquesne Club, Downtown. This annual gathering of Pittsburgh's finest working professionals and community-oriented individuals commemorated an exceptional year at Pittsburgh CLO - highlighted by the culmination of the Next Generation $10 million Capital Campaign, welcoming home the Pittsburgh Premiere of AN AMERICAN IN PARIS in tandem with a celebration of Van Kaplan's 20th year at the helm of Pittsburgh CLO and launching the precursor of the SPARK festival with Pittsburgh CLO's inaugural New Musicals Weekend. The 80th season will feature four operas produced at the Benedum Center and two Resident Artist operas- the annual production at Pittsburgh CAPA Theater and Second Stage Project at Pittsburgh Opera Headquarters. Wicked transports audiences to the Land of Oz where the untold story of its witches unfold on stage in the most elaborate of fashions. As part of its Next Generation Capital Campaign efforts, Pittsburgh CLO debuted a staged reading of this new musical comedy this past spring during New Musicals Weekend at the Benedum Center. ???????PITTSBURGH CLO is pleased to welcome a collection of writing teams from across the country to Pittsburgh for the inaugural SPARK festival in March. These teams were chosen from a highly-selective submissions process and will have the opportunity to rehearse and revise their work in residencies ranging from two days to three weeks. SPARK will provide dramaturgy and production resources to 10 new musicals at all stages of development, in addition to the world premiere of UP AND AWAY. As a part of the development period, eight of the musicals will receive public presentations through which the writing teams can gather audience insights and focus their intentions for the next phase of development. A major initiative of Pittsburgh CLO's recently completed Next Generation Capital Campaign, SPARK is designed to cultivate new and innovative work from emerging and established musical theater artists.  (more...)
