POTUS, OR BEHIND EVERY GREAT DUMBASS ARE SEVEN WOMEN TRYING TO KEEP HIM ALIVE by Selina Fillinger directed by Katie McFadzen Tempe Center for the Arts Studio Theatre December 1 - 16, 2023
Setting: The White House. Pretty much present day but with more standards. One four-letter word is about to rock 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. When the President unwittingly spins a PR nightmare into a global crisis, the seven brilliant and beleaguered women he relies upon most risk life, liberty, and the pursuit of sanity to keep the commander-in-chief out of trouble. Selina Fillinger's brilliant, all-female farce took Broadway by storm in a star-studded production that earned three 2022 Tony nominations.
“Gleefully filthy.” – The New York Times
***PLEASE BE AWARE THIS SHOW CONTAINS ADULT LANGUAGE, ADULT SITUATIONS, COMEDIC DEPICTIONS OF DRUG USE, AND PROP FIREARMS. IF THIS WERE A FILM, IT WOULD LIKELY BE RATED PG-13.***
Selina Fillinger's POTUS, directed by Katie McFadzen, is fast-paced but leans too far into slapstick at the expense of nuance and its fuller potential at harpooning the patriarchy. At Stray Cat Theatre through December 16th.
