On September 17th, we lost Duncan Sheik, a major composer and influence on 21st century theatre, whose music for Spring Awakening pushed the art form forward. Sheik was impressively prolific. While the headline of his theatre career may be the impactful Spring Awakening, his career was filled with over a dozen other varied and worthwhile theatrical projects, in addition to his achievements in popular music. He wrote music and sometimes lyrics for an impressive slate of musicals in addition to composing music for plays, and amassed a notable collective of collaborators on his many shows.

Duncan Sheik’s frequent collaborator Steven Sater spoke with BroadwayWorld about their musical 'Nero,' which is scheduled to open this fall in London, less than three weeks before the songwriter died at age 56.

Tributes have started to pour in for Tony Award winner Duncan Sheik, who tragically passed away on Thursday. Lea Michele, Steven Sater, Kathryn Gallagher, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and more honored the late composer.

The new musical from Tony Award winners Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik will open in London with Andrew Barth Feldman making his London debut as the title character, alongside Stephen Carlile and Sally Dexter.

Tony Award-winning composer and singer-songwriter Duncan Sheik is receiving medical care and remains in critical but stable condition. The news comes ahead of upcoming Off-Broadway productions of Memoirs of Amorous Gentlemen and Spring Awakening.

Spring Awakening at Soulpepper Theatre is a well-executed and expertly-crafted sensory delight (though the dark themes this play tackles are far from delightful) that offers an intense, almost cinematic theatre-going experience.
