BIO

Sheila Joon Azim is a half Iranian, half Swedish, Seattle native whose first name is Sheila-Joon: a classic Iranian term of endearment. After moving to New York, many of her first roles were with Judith Shakespeare Company where she played several of male characters. At Primary Stages/ESPA Sheila Joon was awarded the Mary-Louise Rockwell Scholarship for acting where she studied with Jackson Gay, Kelly AuCoin, Quincy Tyler Bernstine and Andrew Leynse, and appeared in several staged readings with Primary Stages, Rattlestick, 59E59 and Cherry Lane.. An avid learner, she speaks fluent Farsi, some French, has studied Yoga extensively (200 hours RYT) Sheila-Joon has a passion for social justice and finds ways to express her intersectionality; she has worked with award winning director and CD Pat Golden (Blue Velvet, Platoon, The Killing Fields) in several plays including "Carefully Taught" by Cheryl Davis which premiered at APAC where Sheila Joon played both Claire: a white teacher, who gets herself in trouble with a lawsuit and Valerie: Claire's African-American, best-friend's daughter, "Onaje" by Robert Bowie Jr. and "The Blasphemer" by Daniel Curzon which premiered Off-Broadway at The Duke Theatre.
