BroadwayWorld is celebrating Women's History Month and International Women's Day by asking the question, 'what does being a woman in theatre mean to you?'

The Hangar Theatre has announced that Shirley Serotsky has been named Artistic Director. Serotsky served as the Hangar Theatre Associate Artistic Director and Education Director from September 2019 to October 2020, and as Interim Artistic Director from October 2020 to the present.

The Susan Smith Blackburn Prize has announced 10 Finalists for 2021 for its prestigious playwriting award, the oldest and largest prize awarded to women+ playwrights.

The fall season of “Spotlight on Plays” concludes with Robert O’Hara’s BARBECUE on Thursday, December 10 at 8PM EST/ 5PM PST. The company stars Carrie Coon, Colman Domingo, Kimberly Hébert Gregory, Annie McNamara, S. Epatha Merkerson, Tony award winner Laurie Metcalf, David Morse, Kristine Nielsen, Tamberla Perry and Heather Simms.

 This evening following the “Spotlight on Plays” reading of Donald Margulies’ TIME STANDS STILL, NPR’s Deborah Amos will moderate a post-show discussion with the playwright and actors. The play reunites the original company Eric Bogosian, Brian d’Arcy James, Laura Linney & Alicia Silverstone directed by Daniel Sullivan.

 The “Spotlight on Plays” series will continue with a first-time reunion of the original Broadway Manhattan Theatre Club production of Donald Margulies’ TIME STANDS STILL on Thursday, December 3 at 8PM EST/ 5PM PST. The play stars Eric Bogosian, Brian d’Arcy James, Laura Linney and Alicia Silverstone directed by Daniel Sullivan.

The 'Spotlight on Plays' series continues with Anton Chekov's UNCLE VANYA on Thursday, November 19 at 8PM EST/ 5PM PST. This is a world premiere of Neil LaBute's adaptation of Chekov's masterpiece, directed by Danya Taymor.

The lineup of plays for the spring season of the 'Spotlight on Plays' series is now complete. All proceeds for these events will benefit the Actors Fund, to aid during this time of unprecedented need.

BroadwayWorld Book Club is officially off and running! Or should we say, reading! The first BroadwayWorld Book Club selection is Jennifer Ashley Tepper's The Untold Stories of Broadway Volume 1. Tepper has just released the first volume of the book for free on Kindle!

Broadway veteran Lance Roberts' guest this week is Two Time Tony Award winner, Donna Murphy. Create Theater's Monday night series presents a reading of BAD DAUGHTER, an award-winning new comedy by Julie Weinberg, directed by Shelley Butler. The reading will be hosted over the Zoom platform on Monday June 29th at 7PM.

On June 20th at 7:30 p.m. the Hangar Theatre Company will perform Uncommon Excerpts and Others: The Wendy Chronicles directed by Hangar's Artistic Director Michael Barakiva and Associate Artistic Director/Education Director Shirley Serotsky.

The New York City public school students who participated in the TDF Wendy Wasserstein Project this academic year attended a virtual celebration on Monday, June 8 at 4 p.m. on YouTube.
