The pages of Cabaret Scenes Magazine came to life June 21 at Green Room 42 when, together with the American Songbook Association, publishers of the legendary monthly magazine, they hosted the Fourth Annual Darrell Henline Award evening which honored Steve Ross aka “The Crown Prince of New York Cabaret”.
On Saturday, June 21st, when the ASA, Cabaret Scenes, and Montgomery and Dain present Steve Ross with this year’s Darrell Henline Award, they will do so during a star-studded evening of entertainment.
SING FOR UKRAINE, a benefit concert, takes place live From Skylight Run on Friday, April 29th, 7:30 PM ED. In dark times we come together. Ukraine needs our help. We want to do our part. All of us at Skylight Run Productions offer our heartfelt music to shift your mood and lift your spirits. Let this group of original Broadway Stars alter your state of mind and help Ukraine at the same time. All profits will be donated to International Rescue Committee, a trusted, effective organization with infrastructure in place providing shelter, first aid and protective kits, food, medicine, and other aid to Ukrainians. The first $1,000 of ticket sales before April 30, will be matched with an equal contribution.

Michael Childers' presents One Night Only benefitting the Barbara Sinatra Children's Center. a?oeThe Way We Were: Songs of the '70'sa?? features the best of Broadway and pop music from that era, for one performance only on April 22 at 6:30 pm, at The McCallum Theatre. With Direction & Choreography by Scott Coulter and Music Direction by Todd Schroeder, the cast features the best of Broadway and Hollywood performers. I had the chance to catch up with director, Scott Coulter, as he was preparing the production for rehearsal. Here are a few excerpts from that conversation:

Matthew Morrison couldn't be more 'Glee'-ful about launching Bay Area Cabaret's 15th Anniversary Season on Sept. 30 at the world-famous Venetian Room at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco. 'I love places that have so much history,' says the Tony, Emmy and Golden Globe nominee. Among the celebrated singers who've sung there: Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Marlene Dietrich, Peggy Lee and Tina Turner. And in 1961, Tony Bennett first performed 'I Left My Heart in San Francisco' there, which is especially apt since the Fairmont sits high upon Nob Hill, 'where little cable cars climb halfway to the stars.'

On June 26, 2015, the Supreme Court ruled that marriage equality would be the law of the land in America. Three days later, Tom Andersen, an award-winning, out singer-songwriter released a music video that wed his recording of 'Morning Glow' (from 'Pippin') to dozens of images of happy gay couples. The golden-toned tenor said he sought to capture the feel-good euphoria of the LGBT community and its straight allies. Since its posting on YouTube, Andersen says he's heard from fans of the video from all around the world.

Sing Me a Story! , a celebration of the art of the 'story song', makes its world premiere from October 6-8 at the Bridge Street Theatre in Catskill as the final installment in its 2017 Cabaret Series. With a cast that features concert, recording, and stage stars Lisa Asher, Scott Coulter, and Tom Andersen, plus musical director Ian Herman, this new revue trains a spotlight on a very specific type of song one that tells a story.
