The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis will bring an extraordinary production with a cast and crew from around the globe to St. Louis in the organization's return to live theatre with 'Mlima's Tale,' a moving, lyrical journey through the dark world of the international ivory trade from two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Lynn Nottage. 

After conducting a thorough national search, the Alliance Theatre is pleased to announce that Lawrence Bennett has been chosen as the new Director of Production for the Alliance Theatre, beginning July 19, 2021.  Bennett brings to his new role 15 years of production management and technical direction experience in a variety of company leadership positions. 

In April 2021, Parent Artist Advocacy League and Blackboard Plays announced the 1st Annual Black Motherhood and Parenting New Play Festival, the four works that comprise the lineup, and the partner theatres with whom they are producing the plays: Bishop Arts Theater Center, Detroit Public Theater, Oregon Shakespeare, and St. Louis Rep.

Center Theatre Group has announced their Digital Stage schedule for April 26 – May 2, 2021. The Civilians’ digital premiere production of “Black Feminist Video Game” by Darrel Alejandro Holneswill stream at 5 pm from Tuesday, April 27 through Sunday, May 2.

In October 2020, Parent Artist Advocacy League (PAAL) and Blackboard Plays announced an open call for submissions to The Black Motherhood* and Parenting New Play Festival.

Following the success of Latino Theater Company’s national “Encuentro” theater festival in 2014 and international “Encuentro de las Americas” in 2017, the company is now accepting submissions for “Re-Encuentro 2021,” set to take place virtually Nov. 12 –Nov. 21. The deadline to submit is May 17, 2021 at 5 p.m. PT.

Center Theatre Group has announced their digital stage schedule for April 5 – April 11, 2021. The Stratford Festival’s “Macbeth” premieres Thursday, April 8 and is available on demand through July 7, 2021. The lavish Stratford Festival film is free to Center Theatre Group subscribers and supporters and $10 for all others.

In his directorial debut at Studio Theatre, Associate Artistic Director Reginald L. Douglas has reimagined Pulitzer Prize finalist Dael Orlandersmith’s Until the Flood as an ensemble piece for a multigenerational cast of Black women that captures how tragedy in one community became a flashpoint for racial justice across the United States.

Golden Globe-winning actor, playwright, and activist Regina Taylor is partnering with Southern Methodist University’s Meadows School of the Arts, and is seeking collaborators to create a multifaceted, activist-driven initiative, the black album. mixtape.

Playwright Keenan Scott II, whose new play Thoughts of a Colored Man will have its Broadway premiere at the Golden Theatre in the upcoming season, has been selected as a TED2021 Fellow, joining a class of 20 remarkable individuals who are collaborating across disciplines to spark positive change around the world. 

Golden Globe and NAACP Image award-winner Regina Taylor is inspiring conversation, enacting change, and educating young generations through her impactful, creative project 'the black album'.
