The acclaimed Newman & Oltman Guitar Duo will celebrate the world premier of Cuban legend Leo Brouwer's The Book of Imaginary Beings, written for and dedicate to the Duo, at New Jersey's Raritan River Music Festival on Saturday, May 25. The 16 minute, four movement composition was inspired by a compendium of mythological beings created by Argentine author Jorge Luis Borges.

GRAMMY Award-winning pianist/composer Arturo O'Farrill and Kabir Sehgal host 'An Evening of Fandango & Afro Latin Jazz' the weekend of Cinco de Mayo to feature compositions from O'Farrill's prolific new album Fandango at the Wall at Symphony Space on Friday, May 3 and Saturday, May 4, 2019. Inspired by the Fandango Fronterizo Festival, O'Farrill and the 18-piece Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra recorded Fandango at the Wall with more than 60 musicians on the U.S.-Mexico border and in studio in New York City. At Symphony Space, O'Farrill and the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra perform with special guest artists appearing on Fandango at the Wall, including violin virtuosos The Villalobos Brothers; Iraqi-American oud master Rahim AlHaj and his trio; Iranian tar virtuoso Sahba Motallebi; and a selection of son jarocho greats from Veracruz: Patricio Hidalgo, Ramon Gutierrez Hernandez, Fernando Guadarrama, Tacho Utrera, Wendy Romero, and Jorge Francisco Castillo (organizer of the Fandango Fronterizo Festival).

Tap dance workshops, performances and special events herald the return of the American Tap Dance Foundation's Tap City, the NYC Tap Festival, the week long tap dance festival celebrating its 19th year in tap's hometown, New York City. The Jewish Museum will present Israeli-American pianist Daniel Gortler and Brazilian violinist Daniel Guedes performing the music of Ludwig van Beethoven, Edward Grieg, and contemporary Brazilian composer Mozart Camargo Guarnieri on Thursday, May 16 at 8 pm. This is Mr. Gortler's fifth appearance at the Jewish Museum, and Mr. Guedes's first.

The Left Coast Chamber Ensemble's (LCCE) 2018-2019 season culminates with Dorothea and Artemisia, a program featuring the world premieres of two original chamber operas, each inspired by the contributions of an extraordinary woman artist. The concert includes From the Field, a micro-opera by Christopher Stark illuminating the work of Depression-era photographer Dorothea Lange, and Artemisia, a dramatic operatic work by Laura Schwendinger based on the life of 17th century Italian painter Artemisia Gentileschi.
