PEN America will present the 2020 PEN World Voices Festival: These Truths, celebrating literature's deep illumination of cultural, historical, political, and emotional truths in a complex moment when 'truth' is destabilized by the constant undermining of a common set of facts, 'objective' histories are being interrogated and upended, and radical candor about lived experiences is fueling powerful social movements. Today, PEN America announced highlights of the festival, which brings together fiction and nonfiction writers, poets, translators, thinkers, and activists for an array of conversations, interviews, readings, and musical performances on this infinitely prismatic subject.

Valentina Kozlova International Ballet Competition Announced At Symphony Space

The year 2020 celebrates the 10th anniversary of the Valentina Kozlova International Ballet Competition and the 40th anniversary of Kozlova's defection, with Leonid Kozlov, from the Soviet Union (the couple were principal dancers with the Bolshoi Ballet and defected when the Company performed in Los Angeles).

CAG And CSC Collaborate for INSTRUMENTAL STORYTELLERS

Instrumental Storytellers takes audiences on imaginative journeys in this special co-production between Concert Artists Guild and Creative Stage Collective. Classical chamber music, played by virtuoso CAG artists Jordan Bak (viola), Yoonah Kim (clarinet), and Yi-Nuo Wang (piano), provides inspiration for enchanting stories and characters created by the child and adult actors of the Creative Stage Collective.

Grammya"?-winning new-music choir The Crossing, led by Donald Nally, gives the world premiere performances of Michael Gordon's Travel Guide to Nicaragua with cellist Maya Beiser in presentations by co-commissioners, the Annenberg Center on Sunday, March 22, 2020 at 7:00pm in Philadelphia and Carnegie Hall on Wednesday, March 25, 2020 at 7:30pm in New York City. Before the Carnegie Hall performance on March 25, Donald Nally and Michael Gordon will have a 6:30pm pre-concert conversation with John Schaefer, host of WNYC's New Sounds and Soundcheck.

Greenwich Village Orchestra Presents Bohemian Rhapsodies

The Greenwich Village Orchestra (GVO) presents Bohemian Rhapsodies, led by Music Director Barbara Yahr, on Sunday, March 15, 2020 at 3:00pm at All Saints Church. The program presents a collection of famous rhapsodies, exploring the lives of composers from different eras through their personal experiences and cultural influences. The concert will feature Israeli pianist/presenter Astrith Baltsan, known for her beautiful musical skills and her innovative multimedia integration with classical music, aimed at reaching larger audiences. The concert opens with Franz Liszt's popular Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2, followed by Sergei Rachmaninoff's inspired Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini. George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue and Georges Enescu's timeless Romanian Rhapsody No. 1 conclude the program.

New Amsterdam Singers Will Present THROUGH THE SEASONS

New Amsterdam Singers (NAS), led by Music Director Clara Longstreth, will present Through the Seasons, featuring Robert Paterson's 'I Go Among Trees' - a World Premiere commissioned by NAS in honor of its 50th anniversary. The three-movement work by the New York-based award-winning composer is written for chorus and marimba on texts by Wendell Berry, May Sarton, and John Freeman; Makoto Nakura is the marimba soloist. The concert will be performed twice: Friday, March 20, 2020, at 8:00 pm at Broadway Presbyterian Church, Broadway at 114th Street, and Sunday, March 22, 2020, at 4:00 pm at The Theater of St. Jean Baptiste, 184 East 76th St.

SHRINES Comes to National Sawdust

Irish Arts Center, the multidisciplinary center dedicated to bringing people of all backgrounds together through the excellence and dynamism of Irish arts and culture, co-presents Shrines (Carrie Erving) with National Sawdust at National Sawdust on Wednesday, February 19. Shrines - the moniker for Brooklyn-based singer, composer and musician Carrie Erving - mixes dance and visual design elements with ethereal vocals, string arrangements, synth drones, and electronic flourishes in an evening of original songs from her debut EP, Release, produced by Rosana Cabán (of Psychic Twin). The EP draws on influences from her eclectic background in opera, rock, Irish folk, and electronic music. She'll also perform selections from her forthcoming album Our Ship is Ready, a collection of reimagined songs from the Irish Sean-nós song tradition. Shrines has drawn comparisons to Sylvan Esso, Björk, and Sinead O'Connor.

THE 8TH Wins Best Production In 2020 Origin 1st Irish Theatre Festival Awards

a??a??a??a??a??a??a??a?oeThe 8tha?? made sure its one win (out of seven nominations) counted as it nabbed Best Production at the 2020 Origin 1st Irish Theatre Festival Awards at Rosie O'Grady's in Times Square tonight. The world premiere of Seanie Sugrue's comedy-drama about a family's tensions around Ireland's recent epic referendum to overturn the 8th Amendment outlawing abortion, ran for 13 performances at The Secret Theatre in Queens and was produced locally by Locked in the Attic Productions, with Five OHM Productions.

2020 Origin 1st Irish Theatre Festival Nominations Have Been Announced

Waterwell announced today the complete cast for the next performance of The Courtroom, its re-enactment of deportation proceedings that is playing a series of special, one-night engagements in civic venues following a sold-out run in 2019. Tony Award® winner and Emmy Award® nominee Kelli O'Hara, Tony and Obie Award winner Jayne Houdyshell, and two-time Tony Award winner Jennifer Ehle will join members of the original cast for one night only at the Lucille Lortel Theatre on February 12.

The Annenberg Center Will Present The Crossing In New Production Of KNEE PLAYS By Philip Glass And David Byrne

The Annenberg Center will present Grammya"?-winning new-music choir The Crossing in the premiere of a newly staged theatrical production, Knee Plays, on Friday, February 21, 2020 at 8pm and Saturday, February 22, 2020 at 8pm at the Harold Prince Theatre. The program, part of the Center's #GLASSFEST celebration, features a rare opportunity to hear Knee Plays from Philip Glass's Einstein on the Beach and David Byrne's New Orleans-inspired contribution to Robert Wilson's large scale project, the CIVIL warS. The premiere will be narrated by popular Philadelphia actor Dito van Reigersberg.
