BWW Review: TEENAGE DICK, Donmar Warehouse

It's a case of rather ironic programming that the press night for Mike Lew's Teenage Dick at the Donmar Warehouse was on the 12 December, the day of the General Election in the UK. An adaptation of Shakespeare's Richard III, Lew's new play is a meditation on the nature of power transposed to an American high school. Commissioned by The Apothetae, a theatre company dedicated to plays that discuss disability, and with direction by Michael Longhurst, Lew retells Shakespeare with a needed urgency, providing an arch reminder that the voices of the disabled have often been ignored, terrorised or shouted down from the earliest possibility.

2020 is YEAR OF THE RABBIT on IFC

IFC's new original series Year of the Rabbit follows Detective Inspector Rabbit (Berry), a hardened booze-hound who's seen it all, and his hapless, new, by-the-books partner Strauss (Freddie Fox; Cucumber, Banana). While they're investigating a local murder, the lewd but insightful adoptive daughter (Susan Wokoma; Chewing Gum, Crazyhead) of the chief of police joins them, becoming the country's first female officer. Together, the trio must fight crime while rubbing shoulders with street gangs, crooked politicians, spiritualists, music hall stars and more.

Pictures and Legendary Pictures. The starring cast is led by Millie Bobby Brown (“Godzilla: King of the Monsters,” “Stranger Things”) in the title role of Sherlock Holmes's much younger—and equally intelligent—sister, Enola. Joining Brown is Henry Cavill (“Mission: Impossible – Fallout,” “Man of Steel,” “The Witcher”) as Sherlock Holmes and Sam Claflin as the eldest of the Holmes siblings, Mycroft Holmes (“The Hunger Games” films, “Me Before You”), as well as two-time Oscar nominee Helena Bonham Carter (“The King's Speech,” “The Wings of the Dove,” the “Harry Potter” films) as the Holmes clan's enigmatic mother, Eudoria. Written by acclaimed screenwriter and playwright Jack Thorne (“Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” “Wonder”), the film's script is based on the popular Enola Holmes Mysteries book series by Nancy Springer, revealing a dynamic untold chapter in the life of the world's greatest detective and his brilliant family.

BWW Review: A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM, Regent's Park Open Air Theatre

The celebrations for the marriage between Theseus of Athens and his new slave bride Hippolyta are in full swing with techno music, dances, and lots of straight vodka. Lysander and Hermia are in love but her father Egeus wants her married to Demetrius, the focus of Helena's desire. Fairy royal couple Titania and Oberon have become estranged because of her disobedience. While the figures try to resolve their differences, the sun sets on Regent's Park in a jubilation of red and yellow while the Rude Mechanicals rehearse their play.
