The Des Moines Playhouse follows its successful fall season with a family holiday show, Playhouse on the Air Presents: Miracle on 34th Street, Dec. 4-20, 2020. For those not ready to return inside the theatre building, The Playhouse is offering a livestream of opening night, Dec. 4, and on-demand viewing through Dec. 27.

Auditions for the holiday show, Playhouse on Air Presents: Miracle on 34th Street, will be held virtually with an audition video submission deadline of 6:00 PM, Monday, Oct. 19, 2020. All auditions are open to the public; no one is pre-cast.

Actors Co-op Theatre Company's well-received production of the Los Angeles premiere and now Ovation Recommended production of MIRACLE ON 34th STREET: A Live Musical Radio Play, running through December 15, has added two Saturday matinees December 7 at 2:30 pm and December 14 at 2:30 pm.

“This is a tale that we want to believe in, that creates a world we seem to desperately desire, free of the blatant commercialism that surrounds us, where love and decency and generosity of spirit are their own rewards. What we want Christmas to be all about, really.” So writes the Santa Cruz Sentinel of this most heartwarming holiday story. By chance, Kris Kringle, an old man in a retirement home, gets a job working as Santa for Macy's. Kris unleashes waves of good will with Macy's customers and the commercial world of New York City by referring parents to other stores to find exactly the toy their child has asked for. Seen as deluded and dangerous by Macy's vocational counselor, who plots to have Kris shanghaied to Bellevue Psychiatric Hospital, Kris ends up in a court competency hearing. Especially at stake is one little girl's belief in Santa. Most of us are quite familiar with the nostalgic and beloved 1947 Christmas movie, Miracle on 34th Street.  But did you know that the inspiration for the story, about a disillusioned woman, her skeptical daughter and a mysterious man who believes he is the real Santa Claus, came when Valentine Davies was standing in line at a big department store during the Christmas season.

Bay Street Theater has announced that Irving Berlin's ANNIE GET YOUR GUN has been extended to run until September 1. The Central New York Playhouse Holiday production for this season is the timeless classic Miracle on 34th Street under the direction of Bella Calabria. production, set in present day, is heartwarming, nostalgic, and, as per usual, demonstrates the devotion of the community theater performers to their craft.

The iconic holiday classic movie, Miracle on 34th Street, first brought joy into the hearts of millions in the summer of 1947. Although it was and is most definitely a Christmas movie, the original producers chose to release it in May because more people went to the movies in the summer. The fact that it was a Christmas movie was not even included in the marketing campaign. It was kept a secret! Hard to imagine that now, as it has become a holiday tradition for generations.

Second Street Players proudly present Miracle on 34th Street adapted by Mountain Community Theater from the novel by Valentine Davies. Performance dates are November 23rd, 24th, 25th , 30th December 1st and 2nd.

Toby's Dinner Theatre in Columbia unwraps Meredith Willson's MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET, THE MUSICAL, which has enough sweetness to suit the season, enough sass to not be saccharin, and the delightful song 'It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas.'
