Theater Resources Unlimited will present the monthly Panel, Developing New Works in a Virtual New World: Different Countries, Different Challenges on Thursday, January 28, 2021 via Zoom. The panel will be led by Australian producer Neil Gooding, New York producer Cody Lassen, and London producer Katy Lipson.

In 1891, years before Sigmund Freud would revolutionize the way the human mind is perceived and the significance of symbolism, childhood and sexuality on a person’s psyche, German playwright Frank Wedekind challenged the taboos around the sexual tension of young people with a play that would challenge censorship in the theatre for nearly a century.

The theaters are dark. The actors and staff have been sent home -- out of work.

On this day in 2006, the original Tony- winning production of Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater's musical Spring Awakening opened at Broadway's Eugene O'Neill Theater!

In 2012, when Baldwin Wallace's number one nationally ranked musical theater program, in conjunction with Beck Center for the Arts, produced SPRING AWAKENING, my capsule judgement read: 'SPRING AWAKENING is an emotionally stirring, relevant, and well-staged production.'

It’s fun to see the broad influence of student theatre on our entire campus.  Spring Awakening, from Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater, is in the middle of a four day virtual run at Baldwin Wallace University. 

This fall, Baldwin Wallace University's top-rated music theatre program pulls off the ultimate COVID-hack with the first virtual college production of 'Spring Awakening,' the eight-time Tony Award-winning Best Musical created by Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik. But this is no coronavirus-era, pared down, Zoom table reading. The groundbreaking show - shot guerilla film style on iPhones and at more than 40 locations throughout Northeast Ohio - begins streaming November 19.

Art inspires and heals. Lynn Ahrens’ Tony Award winning lyrics from the Broadway musical Ragtime have been running through my head ever since viewing a virtual performance of the show produced by Mad Factory Theatre Company in nearby Oberlin, OH.
