Commonwealth Shakespeare Company (CSC) and Steven Maler, Artistic Director, are very pleased to announce that Pakistani actor, writer, director, and producer Faran Tahir will return to CSC next summer to play the title role of Shakespeare's Macbeth on the Boston Common.

Commonwealth Shakespeare Company (CSC) and Artistic Director Steven Maler are pleased to announce the cast and creative team of Free Shakespeare on the Common in the summer of 2022 - William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing, directed by Megan Sandberg-Zakian. Performances will begin on The Boston Common on Wednesday, July 20 at 8PM (with press opening on Wednesday, July 27 at 8PM) and end on Sunday, August 7.

CSC will host a one-night-only benefit staged reading of Measure for Measure by William Shakespeare, directed by Founding Artistic Director Steven Maler. Commonwealth Shakespeare Company and Artistic Director Steven Maler, have announced the cast and creative team for William Shakespeare’s The Tempest, starring the great Shakespearean actor John Douglas Thompson in the role of Prospero. 

In anticipation of the summer 2021 production of The Tempest on Boston Common, the series Tempest Talks, hosted by CSC Associate Artistic Director Bryn Boice, focuses on the various elements that come together to put a great production on the stage: direction, design, performance.

Commonwealth Shakespeare Company’s new virtual series “The Actor’s Craft” offers a glimpse into the process actors use to bring Shakespeare’s characters to life on stage. Each session features a renowned actor talking about the character with CSC Artistic Director Steven Maler and then performing selected scenes and soliloquies. 

The plays of Shakespeare have been translated into more than one hundred languages, and his timeless stories have inspired great works in many art forms.

Commonwealth Shakespeare Company will continue its online series 'The Actor's Craft' with acclaimed actors Amy Ryan and Jason Butler Harner exploring the roles of Beatrice and Benedick, the couple at the center of Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing. The event will take place on Thursday, December 3, at 7:00 p.m.

Commonwealth Shakespeare Company has announced a slate of upcoming online programming called PlayOn@CSC. The new initiative comprises three series of digital programs that feature actor performances, live conversations, film screenings, and much more, giving audiences a unique behind-the-scenes look.

The Front Porch Arts Collective and Commonwealth Shakespeare Company are partnering in the piloting of Co-Lab, an online training program focused on and taught by artists of color, linking the heightened language of William Shakespeare, August Wilson, and other contemporary writers of color.
