Lillias White (Dreamgirls, Cats, Once On This Island, How to Succeed, The Life, Fela!) is the kind of performer who engenders adoration. She serves up joy and talent in giant portions in everything she does. She won the Tony for The Life, the Obie for Romance in Hard Times, and a Daytime Emmy for her role on Sesame Street. She was also Tony-nominated for her stunning turn in Fela! Her voice is instantly recognizable. No one sings like her. The force of her voice and her presence is as elemental as air, water, earth, and fire.
There are some performers who are blessed with an ineffable quality called “stage presence.” They enter a stage and instantly command your attention, even if they are not really doing much. It is more than looks or charisma or talent. It’s as if they are able to alter the very air in a room simply by being there. Singer/songwriter Anthony Nunziata is such a performer. His self-titled show which opened tonight at The Green Room 42 was 70 minutes of great songwriting and compelling storytelling. He has an angelic tenor voice that is capable of blues, country, pop, and Broadway colors.
Concert and symphony performer Joan Ryan has arrived in New York City to sing for her supper and her sold-out evening at The Green Room 42 looks like she is on her way.
Joan Ryan, winner of BroadwayWorld's Top Artist Award and star of the hit cult musical RUTHLESS!, debuted a brand-new solo ONE NIGHT ONLY! on Saturday, March 7 at 9:30PM at The Green Room 42 (570 10th Avenue).
Nunziata fans are now going to be able to “take home Anthony” after his solo concert shows. He's in the famed Samurai Hotel Recording Studios in Astoria, N.Y. recording his solo debut album as we speak. You will not be able to take home his twin brother Will Nunziata on this CD. It's only going to be Anthony's inspiring voice with soulful takes on classics like, “The Very Thought of You”, “When I Fall in Love”, “Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You”, “Somewhere”, 'Unchained Melody”, Can't Help Falling in Love with You” as well as his original songs including “I Found a Home,” Love Me Anyway”, and “Will You Be My Everyday?”
THE GREEN ROOM 42 presents the return of Tony Award winner Cady Huffman in Miss Peggy Lee: In Her Own Words and Music for two more shows, Wednesday, July 24 and Wednesday, July 31.
Last night, December 19, Town Hall overflowed with the musical joys of the season when three extraordinary talents, Leslie Uggams, Marilyn Maye and Christine Andreas took the stage for Holiday Belles. These award-winning singers brought their unique and diverse talents to the celebration, performing songs from the musical theater and the American Songbook, as well as holiday favorites. The concert, conceived and directed by Michael Bush, featured each singer performing her own individual set, and then brought them together for a very merry finale of holiday melodies. Check out photos from the concert below!
Last night, the Broadway at Birdland concert series presented Broadway/television leading man Cheyenne Jackson on the stage of the historic music room for the first of two shows. The second show will take place tonight, Monday, December 2, at 9:15pm. This is the New York celebration for his recently-released album, 'I'm Blue, Skies.' Check out a look back at the evening below!
