But - barring having identical names to the characters they play - the Geffen Playhouse's cast includes a troupe of comedians befitting their satirical roles.

Tony Award winner Alan Cumming brings his one-man cabaret show to the Geffen Playhouse for eight shows only from September 29 to October 6. Directly following critically acclaimed runs at the Sydney Opera House, Lincoln Center and the Vaudeville Theater on London's West End, Alan Cumming: I Bought a Blue Car Today is a fast-paced jaunt that intersperses witty banter, cheeky stories and show-stopping songs.

Produced by Stephen Byrd and Alia Jones for Front Row Productions, Cat On A Hot Tin Roof will run at the Novello Theatre from 21 November to 10 April 2010, with press night on 1 December.

The 2009-2010 season at the Douglas was announced today by CTG's Artistic Director Michael Ritchie and it will include a world premiere, an American premiere and a West Coast premiere plus expanded DouglasPlus programming that includes an eclectic mix of theatre choices ranging from fully-staged productions to bare-bones workshops and readings. And Toronto surely has the 'Luck of the Irish' this year, as the Chieftains will be at Roy Thomson Hall on Tuesday, March 17 at 8 pm to help us all celebrate St. Patrick's Day. The occasion also marks the last stop and only Canadian date on the band's 21-city 2009 North American tour. Members Paddy Moloney, Matt Maloy and Kevin Conneff are joined on tour by guitarist Jeff White and fiddler Deanie Richardson; and as usual with The Chieftains' shows, there will be pipers, dancers, stories, jokes and special surprise guests.

Susan Hilferty, costume designer for the Broadway musicals Spring Awakening and Wicked, among many other theatrical productions, will discuss her career at the Bruno Walter Auditorium in The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, at 40 Lincoln Center Plaza, on Monday, January 12, at 6 p.m. Hilferty's appearance, presented in conjunction with the League of Professional Theatre Women, is free to the public on a first come, first served basis, and kicks off a series of programs and panel discussions held in connection with the exhibition, Curtain Call: Celebrating a Century of Women Designing for Live Performance, currently on view until May 2, 2009.
