The French Institute Alliance Fran aise (FIAF), New York's premier French cultural and language center, today announced the 2019 Crossing the Line Festival, featuring 11 performances and a gallery exhibition from a geographically, generationally, and artistically diverse group of artists whose work transcends genres and boundaries. All performances are world, US, or New York premieres; they are united by their convention-breaking fearlessness as they confront topics from social injustice to personal demons. Many of the performances pay homage to legendary artists of our time and previous eras, while the theme of migration and its transformational effects on identity informs several others. To date, the special award has been presented to Aretha Franklin, Clive Davis, surviving Memphis Sanitation Workers, Prince, Russell Simmons, Stanley Kramer, Steven Spielberg and Wyclef Jean. The 50th NAACP Image Awards will air during a LIVE TV special on TV One on Saturday, March 30, 2019 from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, hosted by Anthony Anderson.

The Inaugural Palm Springs International Comedy Festival www.palmspringscomedyfest.com held in November has announced its winners. Participants competed from all over the world in stand up and film categories, representing Japan, Germany, Great Britain, Ireland, Australia, Netherlands, China, France, Canada, the U.S. and more. The event took place over two days on Nov 17 and 18, 2018 at Hotel Zoso that kicked off with a star-studded red carpet celebrity dinner gala on Nov 10, where Kathy Griffin was presented with the 'PSICF Comedian of the Year Award.' Actress Illeana Douglas was awarded the 'Pioneer in Comedy Award,' while the comedy of summer 2018, Paramount's 'Book Club' directed by Bill Holderman and produced by Holderman and Erin Simms and starring Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen, Diane Keaton and Mary Steenburgen, received the prestigious 'Stanley Kramer Mad World Comedy Award.'

Ryan Coogler's “Black Panther” was named the year's Best Film today by the African American Film Critics Association (AAFCA), the world's largest group of black film critics comprised of leading film critics from across the country. The groundbreaking blockbuster also won Best Director (Ryan Coogler) and Best Song (“All the Stars” performed by Kendrick Lamar and SZA with music and lyrics by Kendrick Lamar, Anthony Tiffith, Mark Spears, Solana Rowe and Al Shuckburgh) making it AAFCA's top award-winner of 2018.
