The National Society of Arts and Letters Florida East Coast Chapter recently unveiled their new website (www.nsalfloridaeast.org) featuring the 2020 competition and scholarship applications. This year's key National competition is in musical theatre and local applicants can apply now for a chance to win $2,000 plus an all-expense paid trip to Chicago to compete for a $15,000 first prize. Additionally, applications are now open for a Piano and Strings Duo competition along with the Naomi Rabb Winston 2-D Art Scholarship and the Shirley Rabb Winston Classical Voice scholarship. Boone Dog Productions presents playwright Robert Harling's warm and witty Steel Magnolias from February 14-March 8, 2020, at The Nest (1398 Cartwright St). The Ritz Theatre Company will present the opening show of its 35th Anniversary season, Sweet Charity, a newly imagined production of the high-energy musical comedy with dancing inspired by the great Bob Fosse, directed by the father-daughter duo of Roberta and Bruce Curless! The production runs from January 9th through February 2nd.

Twenty-five years ago, Shirley MacLaine and Richard Pryor were onstage together when they were inducted into the Comedy Hall of Fame, honoring them for their Lifetime Achievements on Stage, Television, and Film. On October 17, 2019, Richard Pryor Jr. and Shirley MacLaine's daughter, Sachi Parker, will be on stage together, costarring in a staged reading of 'THE INTERRUPTED JOURNEY' at the Actors Temple Theatre, NYC.

Bob Fosse's SWEET CHARITY (1969), based on the smash Broadway hit written by Neil Simon, starring Shirley MacLaine, will run in a new 4K restoration at Film Forum on Sunday, October 13 at 4:30 and Monday, October 14 at 2:30. Both screenings will be introduced by Kevin Winkler, author of Big Deal: Bob Fosse and Dance in the American Musical (available both days at our concession), with book signings in the lobby following both events.
