Philadelphia Youth Orchestra (PYO) alumnus, double bass player Ranaan Meyer, returns as special guest artist for the PYO Music Institute Gala on Friday, March 24 at The Union League of Philadelphia.

Michigan Opera Theatre (MOT) announced today the election of Ethan Davidson as Chairman of its Board of Directors and Trustees. Davidson succeeds Rick Williams, who has served as Chairman for the past 17 years. Williams announced earlier this year that he would not stand for re-election. The transition, which will include a restructuring of the board, will take effect at the upcoming Annual Meeting Nov. 14.

Michigan Opera Theatre announced today that its Principal Conductor Stephen Lord has resigned from the company, effective immediately. MOT accepted the resignation following public allegations of Lord's past behavior, which do not align with the Company's values and standards.

The landmark gift to the company's comprehensive campaign is designated to support continued artistic excellence, community and educational outreach, and an enhanced patron experience through infrastructure and facility improvements to the David DiChiera Center for the Performing Arts and its Detroit Opera House. In addition, it serves as a call to action to inspire individuals and corporations to join in supporting MOT.

Dr. David DiChiera, Founder and long-time General Director of Michigan Opera Theatre (MOT), died today at his home in Detroit with his family by his side. He was 83 years old and had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in March, 2017.

OPERA America, the national service organization for opera and the nation's leading champion for American opera, is pleased to announce the recipients of its 2018 National Opera Trustee Recognition Awards. Now in their 11th year, these awards honor outstanding trustees of U.S. opera companies for their exemplary leadership, generosity and audience-building efforts on behalf of their respective organizations.

Composer and director Michel van der Aa's perspective-bending chamber opera Blank Out, based on the life and work of South African poet Ingrid Jonker, is reimagined within Park Avenue Armory's Wade Thompson Drill Hall in its North American premiere this September. Miah Persson performs live and is accompanied by a 3D film featuring Roderick Williams and the Netherlands Chamber Choir. The design of the space will capitalize on the malleability of the Drill Hall and the unique backdrop of its architecture with elements that heighten the panoramic landscapes found in the film, utilize the room's iconic vaulted ceiling, and create a stage that is interchangeably vast and intimate throughout the production.
