Following a rigorous audition process, Victorian Opera has announced baritone Stephen Marsh as the first recipient of the Michael Stubbs and Malcom Roberts Opera Prize. The $50,000 opera prize was announced as part of Victorian Opera’s 15th anniversary celebrations in October and attracted high-calibre candidates from across Australia.

Victorian Opera returns to the stage in 2021 celebrating local talent and Australian opera. Among its ten productions, Victorian Opera presents the long-awaited revival of Richard Meale’s Voss, last staged in 1990; the high-octane rock musical The Who’s Tommy; and the world premiere of four new operas by local composers.

With the cancellation of its world premiere new Australian work Three Tales, Victorian Opera will present the three short chamber operas online via its website and YouTube on Saturday 27 June at 7:30 pm.
