The York Theatre Company will honor musical theater legends Richard Maltby, Jr. & David Shire (Baby, Big, Starting Here, Starting Now, Closer Than Ever) with the 2021 Oscar Hammerstein Award for Lifetime Achievement in Musical Theater and Elisa Loti Stein with The York Theatre Company Founders’ Award at the 29th Oscar Hammerstein Award Gala.

Starting Here, Starting Now is a thrilling and touching musical revue using the songs of Richard Maltby, Jr., and David Shire (Big, Baby, Closer Than Ever) now playing at San Francisco Playhouse.

​​​​​​​After a year-long hiatus with the pandemic hitting just before Black Theatre Troupe's 50th Anniversary Season, the renowned company has announced it will resume its annual schedule of performances with its 2021-22 Season.

Cole Porter fans will be able to celebrate his birthday on June 9th in style this year with the world premiere on demand presentation of the Off-Broadway musical Love, Linda: The Life of Mrs. Cole Porter. With book by Stevie Holland with Gary William Friedman, music and lyrics by the legendary Cole Porter and arrangements and additional music by Mr. Friedman. The filmed presentation of this solo show stars the musical's co-creator and originator of the role Stevie Holland, as directed for the stage by Richard Maltby, Jr.*

Westport Country Playhouse has been approved for a $10,000 Grant for Arts Projects Award from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to support the musical, “Ain't Misbehavin,” set to take the Playhouse stage during the 2022 Season, co-produced with Barrington Stage.

San Francisco Playhouse  announced its return to in-person performances with fully staged productions of Hold These Truths by Jeanne Sakata, The Song of Summer by Lauren Yee, and Starting Here, Starting Now by Richard Maltby, Jr. and David Shire. All three productions will also be available as on-demand video streams for audiences to enjoy at home.

Closer Than Ever will star X Factor winner Dalton Harris, alongside musical theatre icons Lee Mead (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat; Wicked), Kerry Ellis (Wicked; We Will Rock You) and Grace Mouat (Six; & Juliet). The film will be available to stream worldwide this September.

Chance Theater presents Orange County premiere of Neil Bertram and Brian Hill’s musical, The Story of My Life will be the first show in our 23rd Anniversary Season. The musical is directed by Matthew McCray (The Other Place), with music direction by Robyn Manion (Ragtime). The show will have scheduled virtual performances through June 6, 2021. 

SummerTide – The University of Alabama’s professional summer theatre, returns to Gulf Shores for its eighteenth season. After celebrating its sixteenth anniversary in 2019 with Forever Plaid and taking a COVID hiatus in 2020, SummerTide will present Starting Here, Starting Now.

The regional festival was conducted virtually this year as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Two industry veterans have teamed up to honor the 25th Anniversary of Jason Robert Brown’s SONGS FOR A NEW WORLD featuring one of musical theatre’s most inspiring finales, Hear My Song. Performer Jill Marie Burke and music director Brent Crayon enlisted the support of director Alan Bailey, and together they assembled Broadway performers, regional theatre standouts and high school musical students, to record a music video honoring the work of Jason Robert Brown and benefiting the Educational Theatre Foundation.
