BWW Review: THE NIGHT OF THE IGUANA, Noel Coward Theatre

In Tahiti in 1940, a penniless Tennessee Williams lay in a hammock beside another writer also despairing of ever finding success, both binge-drinking rum-cocos and welcoming the dramatic storms that temporarily eclipsed their melancholy. To make matters worse, a party of German Nazis was bragging about their success in the war, and Williams' friend pitched 'the long swim to China'.

Tennessee William's The Night of the Iguana plays a strictly limited season at the Noel Coward Theatre. The cast is led by Golden Globe-winner Clive Owen (Closer, Children of Men) who returns to the West End as Rev. T. Lawrence Shannon for the first time in 18 years; Lia Williams (The Crown, Mary Stuart) as Hannah Jelkes; two-time Emmy Award-winner Anna Gunn (Deadwood, Breaking Bad) in her West End debut as Maxine Faulk and Julian Glover (Game of Thrones) as Nonno. The critically-acclaimed hit Girl from the North Country, written and directed by Conor McPherson with music and lyrics by Bob Dylan, is to play at the Gielgud Theatre in the West End for a limited season from 10 December 2019 to 1 February 2020. Girl from the North Country opens in the West End following a run at the Royal Alexandra Theatre, Toronto, opening 28 September 2019, and prior to the Broadway production opening in March 2020 at The Belasco Theatre.

Henrik Ibsen's classic examination of a country in state of political flux has been adapted by Duncan Macmillan and directed by Ian Rickson. Tom Burke plays the soulful John Rosmer, Hayley Atwell is the free-spirited Rebecca West, and Giles Terera is Andreas Kroll, a powerful moral voice. The cast also includes Lucy Briers as Mrs Helseth, Jake Fairbrother as Peter Mortensgaard and Peter Wight as Ulrik Brendel.

After critically acclaimed, smash-hit runs at The Old Vic London, in London's West End, and at The Public Theater New York, GIRL FROM THE NORTH COUNTRY will bring its rousing spirit to Toronto's Royal Alexandra Theatre for a strictly limited engagement. Performances will begin Saturday, September 28 and run until Sunday, November 24. The media performance is scheduled for Sunday, October 6.
