FRIGID New York will present the 10th Annual Gotham Storytelling Festival featuring some of the best storytellers in New York City including Jamie Brickhouse, Michele Carlo, David Lawson, David Lawson, Uno Osata and more.

Haley Swindal (Chicago, Jekyll & Hyde, White Christmas) is a performer in the old sense, the kind who would have been right at home in the age of television variety shows. Her engaging personality is big, but not intimidating. She commands attention without being consciously flashy about it. She has what used to be called in the old days “stage presence.” Before the pandemic, she impressed Broadway audiences as one of the youngest women to play Matron Mama Morton in Chicago. She definitely has some of the swagger and chutzpah of that “Countess of the Clink.” But underneath it lies a sensitive, nurturing, sexy woman who is completely comfortable downstage center. In short, Haley Swindal is the life of the party.

Award winning vocalist Mareiann Meringolo is taking her tribute to the Ladies of Song a few hours north of New York City.

The joy and terror of doing cabaret entertainment is that it is amazingly confessional. There are no characters to hide behind. Only music, a performer, and his experiences. The vulnerability is exponentially compounded when the show you set out to do tells the story of your life. It is an extremely courageous thing to do. That is the task that Mark Corpron sets for himself in his show MOVING ON: SONGS OF JOURNEY, which opened last night at Don’t Tell Mama. The show sets out to explore not the destinations we arrive at in life, but rather the journeys that happen in between those destinations. It focuses on a soul with a permanent case of wanderlust and the loneliness that often accompanies such globe-trotting adventures.

Joining them will be musical director Michael Arrom, Lyman Medeiros on bass, John Ciodini on guitar, and Gene Coye and drums.

The Playhouse Patio Cabaret Series wraps up its 2021 season by welcoming back the inimitable Carter Calvert. Sprinkled with “making it in the biz” stories and rollicking behind-the-scenes anecdotes, her award-winning vocal talents deliver a musical tribute to the divalicious ladies of music in a show entitled Viva La Diva. Floating effortlessly between Broadway, Pop, American Songbook, R&B, and Country, Carter delights audiences with the legendary songs of Patsy Cline, Judy Garland, Carole King, Barbra Streisand, Peggy Lee, and more!

As live performances return to venues throughout Southern California, Irvine Barclay Theatre has announced nearly 20 shows that it has added to its season, which kicks off on September 19 with the country chart-topping trio The Gatlin Brothers.

BIRDLAND THEATER will present “The Lineup” with Susie Mosher – the wild, anything-goes variety show featuring entertainers from the Broadway, cabaret and comedy scenes – every Tuesday evening at 8:30 PM.

The American Dance Festival and the North Carolina Museum of Art have partnered to present Together We Dance, an outdoor festival in the Joseph M. Bryan, Jr., Theater in the Museum Park from September 9 to 16.
