SOUTH PACIFIC is set to play the Civic Center of Greater Des Moines from May 18th to May 23rd as part of the Willis Broadway Series.

The Hartt School Vocal Studies Division presents Aaron Copland's The Tender Land, on Thursday, February 4, Friday, February 5, and Saturday, February 6, at 7:30 PM, and Sunday, February 7, at 3:00 PM in Millard Auditorium on the University of Hartford campus.

The Lyric Stage, Dallas County's only locally produced professional musical theater company, presents SHOW BOAT in concert with a full orchestra in Carpenter Hall. Performances are January 28-31, 2010.

Stephen Sondheim, the legendary Broadway composer/lyricist of some of the greatest works in American musical theatre, launches Hennepin Theatre Trust's new Living Legends series at 8 p.m. at the State Theatre, Friday, March 5, 2010.

The Denton Community Theatre in Texas has announce auditions for their April 9th-25th run of Cinderella- the beloved fairy tale told with music and song. Auditions will take place February 7th-9th by appointment only, and will require that the auditinee prepare two upbeat songs (sheet music is required). The Signature Theatre, nationally renowned for its innovation in musical theater, will reinvent the 1927 classic American musical, Show Boat, in a brand new production playing November 10, 2009 through January 17, 2010.

Rod Gilfry, who had taken a hiatus from SOUTH PACIFIC to play Captain Von Trapp in Paris' Theatre du Chatelet's THE SOUND OF MUSIC, will return to his role as 'Emile de Becque' on January 19 when the next leg of the SOUTH PACIFIC tour makes its stop in Melbourne, Florida.

The enormously popular production of THE SOUND OF MUSIC cannot seem to satisfy audience demand. The record-breaking run was scheduled to end on January 3, 2010 after 15 sensational months. But audiences want more, so producers Andrew Lloyd Webber, David Ian and David Mirvish have had to give in and quickly organize one more week of the classic musical. THE SOUND OF MUSIC will enjoy eight more performances, now ending on January 10, 2010.

Composer-lyricist Stephen Sondheim, who penned the score and lyrics for several critically acclaimed Broadway musicals including SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE and A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC, currently running at the Walter Kerr Theatre, is the focus of a new interview on the theatre related podcast Downstage Center.
