Make a joyful noise! Last night, January 8, Manhattan Theatre Club's Broadway premiere of Choir Boy, written by Academy Award winner Tarell Alvin McCraney(Moonlight, The Brother/Sister Plays) and directed by Drama Desk Award nominee Trip Cullman, officially opened at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre (261 West 47th Street).

The gifts have been opened, the feasts have been eaten and the merriment has been had. As the holiday season comes to a close and we countdown the final hours of the year, we're getting ready to ring in 2019 by looking back. 

Mary Poppins Returns officially came to cinemas yesterday, December 19. BroadwayWorld was there to celebrate the big day at the New York screening, with Lin-Manuel Miranda, Emily Blunt, and many more stars!

BroadwayCon has announced the Tony Award-winning Harry Potter and the Cursed Child cast has joined the BroadwayCon 2019 lineup. Six weeks of fundraising will culminate in an extravaganza of Broadway stars, extraordinary ensembles and one-of-a-kind performances at Red Bucket Follies at 4:30 pm on Monday, December 3, and at 2 pm on Tuesday, December 4. The show is produced by and benefits Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

The nonprofit Sundance Institute announced today the showcase of new independent feature films selected across all categories for the 2019 Sundance Film Festival. The Festival hosts screenings in Park City, Salt Lake City and at Sundance Mountain Resort, from January 24 - February 3, 2019.

Netflix has acquired global rights (excluding Japan, China and UK free TV rights) to The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind, the directorial debut of Academy Award® nominee and BAFTA Award winner Chiwetel Ejiofor.  The British film is based on the bestselling book of the same name written by William Kamkwamba and Bryan Mealer. Ejiofor wrote the screenplay.  

Over 100,000 tickets at all price points will be released on today at 11:00 AM ET for the Tony Award-winning Broadway production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at the fully renovated Lyric Theatre (214 West 43rd Street, New York, NY). This further block of tickets is for performances through June 9, 2019 at all price points starting from $40.

Dramatists Legal Defense Fund's Banned Together: A Censorship Cabaret welcomes Bebe Neuwirth (Chicago, Frasier), Charles Busch (The Divine Sister, The Tale of the Allergists Wife), Noma Dumezweni (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts 1 &2), Richard Kind (Inside Out, Spin City) and Lisa Kron (book/lyrics for Broadway's Fun Home). Monday, September 24th at 7PM at Joe's Pub in NYC.

Abbey Theatre and The Royal Court Theatre's co-production of CYPRUS AVENUE comes to The Public Theater, written by David Ireland and directed by Vicky Featherstone, featuring Stephen Rea as Eric. CYPRUS AVENUE just opened last night, June 25, and is currently running at The Public through Sunday, July 29.

The International Rescue Committee and Shakespeare's Globe have released a new short film to mark World Refugee Day. A unique performance of Shakespeare's speech 'The Strangers' Case' from The Book of Sir Thomas More, the film features refugees from Syria, Sierra Leone and South Sudan alongside renowned actors including Kim Cattrall, Lena Headey, Noma Dumezweni and Jamael Westman in an expression of unity with all those who have fled conflict overseas.
